If an island country is totally closed, is infection still possible?
Just curious. Currently in my first normal-difficulty game with only 1010 days until a cure is found and greenland is the only uninfected country (due to the whole "Execution of infected groups" thing/event), or is it possible to get some kind of transmission that has a chance to cross seas to isolated countries?
Probly not though, I'm the bacteria ofcourse.

Yes there are a few possible ways to still infect closed countries.
There is a gene that allows a small % chance for infected to cross borders.
Upgrading Birds can also help.

The best thing to do really is keep your plague low key, and disable mutation.
Upgrade your transmission.
Wait until you have infected most countries, especially the harder ones to get, and then start making your plague deadly.

In the mobile version if you have evolved several of the animal vectors you can infect closed islands through non-human vectors
Ahhh okay, it's how i usually go about beating the game, I just sometimes jump the gun and when i've almost got all of the world, i make it deadly.

I've had trouble with this too. Namely Iceland and Greenland. Only a handful of people get infected there and usually die, and by then the country has isolated itself. I lose because I've killed the entire world...except Greenland and Iceland -_-

Enhancing ship transmission VERY early in the game helps....increases your odds of infecting the island countries before they close their ports.

The easiest way to infect closed countries is with fungus, just keep a few sporeclouds handy just in case. When playing Neurax, hijacked planes should work fine as well and are targettable, spores infect a random uninfected country.

I'm still using Bacteria because I still can't win. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong :(

Maybe you're going too fast. You should keep severity and lethality as low as possible until you have infected a large part of the planet. That means keeping away from symptoms that increase these values and even removing random mutations. Keep pushing transmissions and wait for your plague to spread. Also, when you've got a comfortable level of infectivity and resistances, save your points so you can push into the symptoms when you wanna start killing. I'd recommend keeping away from symptoms until they first discover your plague and even then going slow with coughing/sneezing for example until you've spread.

The reason is - as long as you keep under the radar, they won't start fighting you and ports etc. stay open.

Also - try to balance your lethality. As long as you haven't infected everybody, your plague can possibly kill faster than it infects. That can even turn infected countries healthy again when everyone infected dies.

Yeah, therein lies the thing. That's exactly what I'm doing, keeping my lethality and severity as low as I can, but I still get discovered way early on and a cure starts developing.

The best way whit iceland and greenland its to raise cold to lvl 2. Work like a charm whit me...most of the time xD

for myself i dont even develop symptom b4 i infect everyone

only work whit air, water trasmition combine whit cold and drug resistance once its done i envolved directly to catastrophique organe failure.

like that i normaly kill them all before they got a cure
I recently got Plague Inc, and I agree that the best route is to infect first and then make the disease lethal later, so I would like to disable the mutations that give me symptoms (including lethal ones) for free, but I don't know how to disable it. Can anyone tell me?

Try to infect as many people as possible though. I remember I didn't infect all the people in Greenland before I hit the kill switch (total organ failure) and they just started cappin people and they became healthy.

you dont theres a gene that reduces the chance of it happening

There is also a gene to keep the cost of Devolving symptoms from increasing, which allows you to devolve symptom mutations until you are ready for them.
