Strategy for Fungus Required (No Genes)
Does anybody have a strategy for Fungus that doesn't use any genes and is specifically for Normal or higher difficulty? I'm trying all the guides I can, but the cure always beats me before I can get the entire infected world to die because I don't have the genes.

Tatsur0's guides for mega brutal works well with normal mode without the genes, just don't rush the game as much :-)

I followed that guide, but I tried and tried again and failed about 4-5 times using it.

I have been trying to beat it on normal with the fungus as well and haven't been able to. Guess ill keep trying different combos till i get the right one.

if you're just looking for completion on normal then i can give you a short fool proof guide

1) de-evolve all symptoms

on normal difficulty you get free DNA from de-evolving(on brutal you get 2-n points where n is the amount of symptoms you have de-evolved, so eventually it gets costly).

the Pro's of having no symptoms is that you can't be detected, no detection no cure(mega brutal has random medical check-ups so this doesn't work).

The Con's is that is usually takes 1000+ days of idling to infect everything, but if you always de-evolve symptoms and keep severity at 0 then you can't fail.

2) use fungal spread at the start and end

at the start spreading to another continent fast and easy will make it way easeir to infect the world, since you're basicly getting 2+ starting countries. Mid game where half the world is infected there's little point in having an infection in brazil when columbia, peru and argentina is already infected and is probably going to spread there naturally.

At the end game you use it to reach greenland, madagascar, new zeland ect. that is hard to reach because they're islands.

3) shock evolve lethal symptoms

save up 70 DNA and then go straight from "not severe at all" to "extremly lethal". Go straight to total organ failure, necrosis or the like.

Tbh, fungus was the easiest for me (not gone further than that).
I got the thing that gives you a bonus in arid climates I dont know how much that helps.
I started in Saudi Arabia and it took a lot of patience...I evolved it with wind and water transmission (so it doesnt mutate as much and goes to islands with planes/ships), devolved every mutation and used the occasional fungal spread (maybe three times).
Also evolved the resistance to cold because without it, it wont spread in greenland, iceland and canada.
When you infect everyone just evolve to be deadly so it's too late for them to start developing a cure.

My main tactics is to not let anybody know the fungus exists until it's too late.

Here are some things that can help you or anyone having a hard time with fungus. Even though my fungus has the gene that helps it with aired countries, but it should still work without the gene,

1) Start in any country with both a seaport and an airport, India is great for this since it has a higher chance to infect more people then other places.

2) Evolve spores to levels 2-3 during the early part of the game since you really need to spread without being detected. Evolve resistance to cold all the way so you can infect cold countries, and you need to make it spread through water and air all the way. Ignore animals, insects, birds, and blood since they'll just waste your DNA points that you need later.

3) Devolve systems as you'll get 2 DNA points refund on normal. Evolve drug resistance, early on as it'll make it hard for the cure to kick on. Get genetic hardening to slow down the cure research and the genetic reshuffle will also slow it down. It's better to get them over time.

4) Once everyone has been effected and you have been saving up your DNA points, you quickly get the following so you get make it so fatal that the cure research has a hard time keeping up.

Rash->sweating->skin lesions->necrosis (if you're lucky, the fungus evolve it on it's own) and by doing this, you're making the fungus so lethal that people are dying in a fast rate that the cure research has a hard time keeping up, you can also add Hemorrhagic shock to make the fungus even more lethal and people die even faster.

5) When more then one orange and/or red bubble come up, pausing the game make it easier to catch them and pop them without losing them. Do this with the blue bubbles since you want to get rid of them quickly. It's easier to quickly pause them game when you have your thumb on the space bar as your fingers control the game's speed.
