ATP boost

I've started playing the game again and was looking online for help. Most guides recommend ATP boost but wouldn't I get a better bonus overall from clicking red pop-ups throughout the game or blue if I struggle with upgrades towards the end? I haven't unlocked cheat mode yet, don't know if that makes a difference?

The guides that recommend ATP boost are using it for their particular strategy.

If you have some other strategy in mind, feel free to do it your own way. The guides are going to recommend what works best with their specific instruction set. If you play with different choices or different timing than they do, you would pick different choices.
