Stuck on First-time Setup, Microsoft VC Redist Package won't install

Tried it a few times, uninstalled, reinstalled, verified integrity, re-started, etc. Left it for 30 minutes to see if it would complete but never got past step 1 of first-time setup. What am I doing wrong?

Sorry, is it installing the redistributables that you're struggling with, or have you done so and the game still won't launch?

[SOLVED] It was the redists. Quite possibly due to a recent update. I ended up following a guide and uninstalling old redists, troubleshooting Windows Update (had been freezing and required re-start) then disabled it, changed the name of Software Distribution file, re-enabled WinUpdate, disabled all startup apps, and re-started. Re-tried installing directly from the file and it worked. The whole troubleshooting took me like 3 hours (including making sure everything was up to date) but yeah it's done. Sorry for the bother.

I don't remember the exact guide I followed but I'm not sure how much it'll help you since it's based on my own PC in this instance. The steps I listed were what resolved it for me personally.

I had the same issue for "They Are Billion". In this case i just renamed the _CommonRedist folder to something else, then the install scripts fail to find the files, and continue to load the game regardless

can anyone help me? i Downloaded hades and when i press the Play Button it installs Microsoft Vc Redist Package so i had this problem with the last game it's called spelunky 2 and i refunded it because i could not fix it. so when i installed it didn't do anything and i pressed the play button to see if that would work but nope it starts installing Microsoft Vc Redist Package again. Please Help me this game took my 2 hours to download

I'm having the same issue with Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition. I am stuck in a loop where the game is installed but won't play because it keeps downloading the Microsoft VC redist package over and over and over... I even uninstalled completely but I'm back in the loops again once I tried to play the reinstall.

I had to do two things to solve this issue for me, and I actually had to allow a Windows professional tech person connect to my computer to show me how it's done, since I'm not all that tech savvy. I'll share the solution he found for the rest of you as well! He opened Task Manager and went to the Background Processes that were active, and saw that Windows Installer was stuck on trying to install the same Redist Package. He cancelled the processes called "Setup" and "SetupChipset" so that Windows Installer wouldn't remain stuck. Then he went into my list of installed apps and programs and Uninstalled all other Redist packages, starting with the highest one (for me it was 2015) and moving backwards until he got to the earliest ones (for me it was 2008). After uninstalling them all, we ran the game and allowed Steam to do its first time setup, and it installed the 2010 Redist package with no issues. Hope this helps other people as well!

I solved it by pressing control, alt and delete at the same time, going to task manager, and ending the background task that's name was along the line of "something something redistributals"; Can't remember the exact name, think it started with an S. After clicking on that and then end task, it worked,
