Creates your own dictionary
Hello all, I don't know if you know this, but you can create one or more files .txt in DLC. Of the application (<steam dir>\SteamApps\common\Typing of the Dead Overkill\DLC).

Start game and go to options -> dictionnary.
Choose your own dictionnary.
I use also 100% of my dictionary words.

Enjoy!

That doesn't work.

Any more info on what you did to accomplish that?

I don't know how to share image here, but I uploaded some screenshot to my TOTD page: http://steamcommunity.com/id/tycoeur/screenshots/?appid=246580

Check the third image with the java.txt file open, the directory with the file and the screen to choose the dictionnary.

I also added 2 screenshots with the current new words :)

HTH!

Let me know if you cannot (or can) create your dictionary :)

Works! Thanks a lot. I've been wanting to use my own word lists forever!

I had no idea this was possible. Any idea what amount of words do you need in the file to work? and what is the minimum length to cover all needs? and can boss and inmates words be changed or are they always the same ones?

I'm gonna start working on a dictionary on my native language, the game will surely become easier now.

I built a very small "java" (programming language) dictionary.
When selecting your dictionary, you can select the percent of words choosed from your dictionary: I selected 100%. So my ~30 words just loop again and again...
Except if you put a very large dictionary, I don't think you'll get the limit (computer with 16MB is behind us...).

The real question is the dictionary caracter encoding: I used only ascii words, but could be nice if it works for UTF8 files (IMHO this should be possible, because this game is sell accross the world).

I don't know if dictionnary works for boss (with a specific dictionary), but you can select to replace boss words when selecting your dictionary.

For info, I tried a 336531 words dictionary (3.7MB), and it worked. But loading was a little bit longer... But choose your words (in your language): in french some words are unused, and were really hard to type! :o( I need to find an "every day words" dictionary! :o)

I just tried a list and some phrases that started with a ¿ or ¡ were changed to ?, and I had to actually type it correctly, phrases ended with ? was not needed. Accents and any kind of non ascii letters don't show, à, ü, ñ or ç were changed to a, u, n and c.

This is insane. What a cool tip. I've always wanted to make a 'Song of Ice and Fire' dictionary so I could type in 'nipples on a breastplate'. Haha!

Also, this is a good way to make the game simpler for young typists (13 yrs old or less).

Custom dictionaries I've made so far:

*ABC 123 Symbols
*Song of Ice and Fire

Planning on making ones for Wheel of Time, Lord of the Rings, Magic the Gathering... damn, this is crazy.

Thanks for the tip, Tyco!

Used EditPad Lite and made a .txt file with a 500+ word dictionary.
Works great!

This is a major find for this game and changes everything. Will really enhance the replayability.

Thank you Tyco!

Much appreciated. Makes it more fun. Thanks Tyco! :)

Very nice! =)
I hope they will not remove this feature because they said they did not manage user dictionary.

Now we need a way to exchange it ;o)

For info, how I found it:
I wanted to start reversing dictionary load process. Before starting I like to feel which kind of "string" code contains internally, so I searched "DLC" in TOTD binary. And found a strange: "DLC/*.txt"... So I just tried to create a simple list of words! =)

Fatest reverse eng. ever! :P

Truth is, I bought all dlcs on sale after checking this feature lol not sure if I will use them but it was my way of showing support, after all I will provably be spending more hours now with custom dictionaries.

For sharing simple google docs can be enough, just copy and paste into a txt, but so far I have not done any english dictionary.

Custom dictionaries really make the game more fun. I feel a strong urge to complete long phrases that I'm familiar with (e.g. The shield that guards the realms of men).

Really cool tip indeed, i hope they will not remove that feature too... Some users certainly used it seeing the leaderboards, and that's frome the game release...

However, do you know how much words are referenced in original dictionaries ? There's some specific words shorter or longer depending on some monsters, i don't want to face a ten words answers right in front of a zomb...err, mutants spawning right in front of me :reuschicken:
