Thank you!!!!! That worked and I added a shortcut on my desktop to the new file name and it works. Why can't Steam fix something this simple so I can access it through the library like my other games :-(

If you have a screen with high resolution, something that worked for me was changing resolution of my screen to 1920x1080. Or open the game using the integrated graphics instead of the external gpu

This worked for me as well. Thanks Evil Tiger!

Adding X86 to the launcher name worked for me once... and now I'm back to a black screen with only sound *sigh*

So I had this issue after deciding to install the game again. I also tried a lot of the "fixes" people suggested such as adding x86 to the file name, forcing the game to low power mode to use the integrated GPU, running as Windows XP, 7, installing older DirectX or Microsoft service packs, etc. None of these worked for me. I then decided to poke around in the AppData folder and after delete the settings file, that actually got the game to boot. But the minute I changed the screen resolution or anything like that, the game would fail to boot afterwards. I then found some discussions about using a brute force method to adjust the resolution. and they had even linked a program called dgvoodoo that could do just that. Find more information here if you're interested in getting it working: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/DgVoodoo_2

Anyways, I hope this information is helpful in getting your game going again.

(A REPLY FROM ANOTHER POST I WROTE TO)
How to fix not launching/black-screen issue:

|This worked as off December 2024.|

WINDOWS 10
- Be sure to also have the game running in "safe mode" (as alot of others say)
Windows Settings>Display>Graphics settings>Browse>(find your located game in the steam folder>steamaps>common>THE TYPING OF THE DEAD: Overkill
- Select the game, press options and select "power saving" mode
-If your power save mode is not your prosessor, google how to "activate/locate"
integrated graphics in your BIOS (most likely iGPU settings).

Try running your game.

If that didn't work, do what "GuybrushMonkey97" did.
- locate the game in your steam folder
steam>steamaps>common>THE TYPING OF THE DEAD: Overkill
- right click your EXE file (named HOTD_NG) and rename it "HOTD_NGX86-safemode"
- Open "run" (windows button + r)
- type %appdata% and press OK
Enter the game file
- Sega>Typing of the Dead Overkill
- you need to delete a file named "config"

Try to run the game!
DISCLAMER: I can only run the game via the game file in my steam folder.
Go to: steam>steamaps>common>THE TYPING OF THE DEAD: Overkill
rightclick your "HOTD_NGX86-safemode.exe" file and press "run as administrator.

GL <3 Hope this helps.

(for windows 11 users i have no idea how to help).

(UPDATE FROM MY LAST POST)

WINDOWS 11
(In another discussion a user named "The Comedian" said this will work)
- steam>steamaps>common>THE TYPING OF THE DEAD: Overkill
- rightclick the file named HOTD_NG
- change the filename to "HOTD_NGx86"
this will launch the game.

The comedian also says:
Alot of people say you have to run it under integrated graphics but i can't actually get it to run under integrated, the performance is too poor.

I then recommend trying this first, before trying to change the game's
running mode to "safe mode".
- If this does not help, try running it in "safe mode".
(I wrote it down on my other post if you need a guide to do this

I am on windows 10, the first time I purchase it and installed it, and I launch it, it does not start. The I did the following steps, and it works now.
1. Open "run" (windows button + r)
type %appdata% and press OK
Enter the game folder Sega -> Typing of the Dead Overkill
you need to delete a file named "config"
2. In steam, remove Typing of the Dead Overkill
3. locate the game in your steam folder
steam -> steamaps -> common -> Typing of the Dead Overkill
remove the whole folder"Typing of the Dead Overkill"
4. In steam, install Typing of the Dead Overkill
5. In windows 10, change the resolution from 3840*2160 to 1920*1080
6. Launch the game, and it works!
This worked in my case:
Go to a folder and rename HOTD_NG to HOTD_NGX86 (after this you can launch game from this file)
If you want to load game by the steam, you have to write something like this in launch options (you can find this in properties)
"path to file/HOTD_NGX86" %COMMAND%
For Example: "D:\Steam\steamapps\common\Typing of the Dead Overkill\HOTD_NGX86.exe" %COMMAND%
