how do i cleanse my equpment of corruption?

No need to be a ♥♥♥♥, that's the opposite of helpful. The room is extremely intuitive. All the obvious orbs one can interact with are to lvl up equipped items, and the cleanse orb can only be interacted with if the player pushed them-self up on/against its pillar. That's not good or obvious design.

Same I avoided those rooms initially because they gave off "New Realms/Levels" vibes

Same here, I assumed they were two new levels you move to after finishing the tutorial.
