The Steam Version A.K.A. Why spend $7?
Apparently there's a huge misunderstanding that Kingdom Rush is released as the same game as the Flash version. Guess some idiot proof explanation wouldn't hurt...

Here are the differences of the Steam version from flash and mobile versions:

* The graphics (map and battle) are enhanced compared to other versions. There are a few minor control additions.
* There are no micro transaction in the steam version. Meaning, there's nothing you can buy in-game even if you want to.
* Not all content is unlocked from day 1. You unlock everything by playing through. There's no other way in the steam version.
* In the Steam version, there are stuff that are not present on the Armor games version. The same stuff is present on the mobile version but is subject to extra money - which sums up to way higher than $10. So if you want to play with stuff (some heroes and some extra levels) not present, mobile or flash versions will be cheaper for you. If you want all the stuff in, Steam version will be cheaper for you.
* In the Steam version, when you finish the 12 level main campaign, you unlock 3 x 2 level mini-campaigns + 4 other solo levels. Most of these levels contan unique bosses.
* Currently 9 bonus levels are available for free in the Steam version, all of which are premium content in the Flash version:
- Winter Storm 2 level mini-campaign
- Rise of the Bandits 2 level mini-campaign
- Burning Torment 2 level mini-campaign
- Rotten Forest solo level
- Sarelgaz's Lair solo level
- Ruins of Acaroth solo level
- Fungal Forest solo level
* There are currently 13 free heroes in the Steam version, 3 of which are also free in the Flash version. The others are premium content in the Flash version.
* Buyers of the Steam version are also promised a new full campaign (Curse of Castle Blackburn) with unknown number of new levels, for FREE. The mentioned full campaign will be exclusive for Steam. This is labeled as coming soon.
* Kingdom Rush Frontiers is not included in the Steam version, neither is promised for free. It will probably be either a paid expansion or a standalone game if it ever gets released on Steam.

Well yes but to be fair any of these things are not needed to play or otherwise beat the game, but in the end it's up to the individual to choose how they would spend their time and money.

Maybe the changed engine could be reflected a bit more. There are people who actually have a feeling of hate towards flash. ;)
And... well... hate to say it: Some people like steam achievements those obviously aren't in the flash based version.
Thanks for this post mate, i got out this morning to charge my card and buy the game... then i read all people talking about the flash or mobile version and i was almost convinced not too buy 'cause they really made it look worthless buying the steam version. Now after lunch i'm definitely gonna buy it : )

Good post.

To sum things up for everyone...

This is the free version...with benefits...

Benefits include:
Heroes (can't be used in heroic / iron difficulties)
7 Additional Levels beyond the campaign.
Achievements
- Future content...to be released at a unknown ETA.

P.S. I don't believe it fair to say that this is "cheaper" since all the heroes are unlocked...you really only ever use 1 hero..you would be an idiot to buy all the heroes in the free version.

@Marshall Briggs; no you don't need anything to be able to play and I already mentioned that but without paying, it's a smaller game.

@Desolater IV; Well, for one I like my games full. Yes you get to use 1 hero at any given time but different levels require different setups and having a melee hero on a boss level or a level with many flying units doesn't really help. Or a fragile hero is no good on a level with a lot of ranged enemies. Again, no, you don't need all heroes but why even play this game at all if you don't care about it's richness of content?

@all; glad it helped. Feel free to add anything I've forgotten.

i'm only going to say 1 thing here its being marketed for the average person that never stumbled upon newgrounds :P

I support the developer by buying the game. I loved the flash version and now I don't have to use a browser to play the game. I want them to have my money to keep throwing development time at it and make more new fun content. If / when they release Kingdom Rush Frontiers i'll be buying that too. For you people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about spending $10 for a "free" game you can play as a flash game. Go get a job and a life. Good games deserve to be supported. This my friends is a great game. One of the most fun tower defense games i've played.

The game is good, and well worth the $10. The Unity engine is not cheep, and the dev went thru no small effort converting his game from flash to a full PC release using Unity. Unity is not cheep. You have to pay a licence fee for each platform, in addition to a monthly fee for each platform.

I dont get why ppl are willing to spend the same amount of money on coffee, snacks, 24 cans of soda without even thinking about it, yet $8 is too much to give for the hard work of a dev that provided a very fun game.

I'd just like to point out it should be 9 levels; you missed out Rotten Forest. Making the current game (28th Feb) have a total of 21 levels (12 from main campaign + 9) with 105 possible stars.

I'd just like to ask about the new towers bit; I never saw any mention of that. Perhaps I've missed something.

Thanks, edited. Also edited the other mini-campaign names.

I'm fairly certain I saw "new towers" in the store page but it doesn't exist anymore. So I removed it.

Why is this not a sticky?!?!?
Epictetus Mar 12, 2014 @ 1:29pm
The OP seems like a dev, who else would get so upset and post so much detail in the most resentful way they could? If they are a dev why do they not sticky for better publicize this info? If OP is not a dev then ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ go take up a real cause deserving of your defensivness.
