How do I activate my hero abilities?

I've finished like 5 stages now without letting one monster pass, so im doing good but havnt figured out how to activate the hero abilites - or are they just passive?

The hero use them on their own. Don't worry they spam them as much as they can. The other 2 abilities are on number 1 and 2.

Also they get them as they level up. Higher level better spells the hero use.

You mean meteor/fire thing and reinforcements?

If so, yeah I know about them :O they have saved me a couple of time to get my three stars.

Hi QuezcatoL!, the heroes gain abilities as they level up, and they will call their abilities automatically.
Your job as the player is putting the Hero in the right place at the right time to make the most of his/her abilities.

I think I know where you might be stuck, OP (I nearly asked this question myself this morning). I unlocked my first hero, but there was nowhere to use him and no sign of anything to click. However, look at what icons are shown (and what are crossed out) on the book page for the level you're about to play (the page that tells you what towers will be available to use and where you begin the battle). If there is a red line through Heroes, then they won't be available (and they're not available).

The Hero can only be used on the main campaign levels (the Hero icon won't be crossed through) and I think this is available level 4 onwards. When in the battle, he will have a giant icon at the bottom left of the map. You click this, then click on the path to place him. If that icon isn't there on the map, the hero isn't available for the round.

Actually, heroes are best moved by pressing SPACEBAR and then clicking where you want him/her to move.

All heroes can be used in the normal campaign levels however you can't use them in the Heroic or Iron modes till you reach the Lava Wasteland areas and beyond.
