Tesla Coils make that mission a joke, though. Those things are OP.

Tesla actually isn't too OP until star upgrades. It does have SOME favoritism going on, but the most I would do is have the Howitzer-Tesla transition and the 2nd and 3rd Overcharge upgrades each cost 25G more. Otherwise, Demons run around making sure that you'd want to spend on archers, cutting down on the funds you can have for handling Tesla's already high cost. Add to it that too many durable enemies easily overwhelms Tesla because of its awful range and you end up wanting additional towers to prevent that from ever happening.

Do Dark Tower without Star Upgrades or Heroes. You will feel Tesla's problems FAST. That thing can't even solo 2 Demon Hounds, let alone the Necromancer's shenanigans. And just in case you don't think that challenge is possible, here's a couple of videos that could help:
