The flash version had a drop down menu each level and you could see which level you mastered in hard mode.
Now i only have global settings, which i must always change in the settings.
Hope there is a better effect for the hardcore-hard-players?
As far as I've checked, there are no differences to, damage dealt by enemy units, damage dealt by towers, gold cost for each tower, nor starting gold at level start or gold from each enemy unit killed. That makes the only difference the enemy HP quantity.
Changing any numbers for the enemy damage or upping the defense would compound with the already increased health, making it too overwhelming IMO. Accelerated play would be cool though, that I agree with.
For example (and this is embarrassing) I got all 20 stars and THEN figured out that ghost knights are completely immune to physical attacks. Gah. The second and fourth stages got SO much easier after that. Once people figure out how to avoid werewolves and protect against witches and so on, that extra challenge will go away. (Put your hero between the witches and soldiers -- the hero is immune.)
And, yeah, I'll parrot that I'm really disappointed in the difficulty slider. It helps people who want to beat a level without reconsidering their strategy to find a better way, but it fails pretty epically in making the game harder. We could ALREADY make the game much harder just by turning off heroes or upgrades. What difficulty levels on other versions did was give you new things to achieve in-game -- a note for each level saying it was beaten on hard. It was another reason to play, and not having the difficulty recorded per-stage takes that in-game objective away. This is a pretty significant feature to leave out of the "superior" Steam version.
Once you can beat a level easily on casual, try it on normal. You'll probably find that it's not nearly as hard as you remember. The difficulty in this game is less individual killing monsters and more finding the right strategy for a level.
