Dark Tower Iron
Who exactly thought this was a reasonable challenge? Even following the video guides we have, with the exact same tower placement, and the hero they're using, I still lose. I have all the Level 5 upgrades except for the ones that couldn't help me here. I've tried teleporting, the Ranger's snare ability, Earth Elementals, and none of it matters. I'm getting a little angry.

Have you tried using teslas? I looked at a couple of the videos in the Guides section and they were using a lot of magic towers, but teslas are great for crowd control. They can make a lot of maps pretty easy. Here's one topic where someone posted a link to a Youtube video showing someone starting with a tesla and going from there (although I don't know if they were playing Iron or one of the other modes):

You can't use Teslas in the Iron mode, or any of the AOE towers.

Sorry. It's been quite a while since I played (2 years since I got the Iron achievement), so I didn't think about that. I can't think of anything to add to what's in the other videos -- Magic towers, and archer towers with the vines to slow the enemies down.

So basically just try every combination of them until something finally works. Great.

I assume that you're playing on Normal difficulty.

FWIW, I just did it. It wasn't _too_ bad. It only took me two tries (which, for me, isn't bad), although it did get really close on the second one. I had archer towers (eventually upgraded to have vines) on the corners and magic towers on most of the other spots. I also put a barracks near the exit, to try to delay anything that was about to get out, but I put those troops in the path above the barracks most of the time, to slow enemies down, and then moved them below when something was getting close to the exit. Most of the magic towers were the purple ones (I forget the names), but I did (eventually) have one elemental in the middle.

I don't have any video (I've never tried to record a game), but maybe some of that will help. IAC, good luck with it.

Could you post a screenshot?

You could also check the Forum. Some of the most analytical players linger there and usually discuss strategies.

That challenge level is punishingly hard , but it can be completed.

I didn't exactly spend two hours last night trying to beat a level I didn't think could be beaten. Is this what these levels are like from now on? They used to actually be fun.

Alright, I managed to beat it by combining a couple strategies, and getting lucky with the level 5 Rain of Fire. I was probably exaggerating how hard it was; sorry for being an ass.

I 100% the game on [hard] and especially the right half of the map gets way harder and it feels imbalanced. I don´t think it´s a cakewalk for anyone. This is why you don´t have to bother wasting hours on a map. I had to look up some guide for the last few levels.
There is some guy who did it without heroes. He must have clocked hundreds of hours.

Glad to hear that you finally beat it. Like a lot of the levels/modes, it can seem next to impossible until you find the right approach.

You need the right approach and you need almost perfect timing and positioning on everything.
