Any games similar to this?
I am talking about tower defense type of games with simple but not overlooked graphics - just like this game. I don't want any modern 3D games or full of special effects kind of games. Since the sequel of Kingdom rush is not going to appear on steam, what are the alternatives?

I don't really know about any steam games but Incursion 1 and 2 feel pretty similar to KR. I also liked Cursed Treasure 2. They are free at Armor Games.

I'm not a big fan of the 3D or special effect style TD games either. I really enjoyed these ones:

Go Home Dinosaurs!
Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten

I hear that Defense Grid: The Awakening is good also, but haven't played it yet myself. My partner says you can zoom in/out and change the camera angle if that's a concern (top-down, side-view, etc).

Defender's Quest and Defense Grid are both good. And both have sequals coming out in the not to distant future.

Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten
Defense Grid
Pixeljunk Monsters - Ultimate

All 3 of them are really awesome

Fieldrunners 1 and 2 are excellent, and quite similar in feel to KR. They also offer multiple modes of play, including endless.

The thing I like about those is the fact that you make your own maze.

Sanctum 1+2 are pretty awesome, mix of TD game and FPS.
Also Defense Grid is really good IMO.

Someone mentioned Armor Games, I like to play on Kongregate (pretty much same deal, hosting site for free flash/unity games).

There are actually lots and lots of similar games there, take a look.

Recommended (if maybe a bit different from Kingdom Rush)

Gemcraft (various versions) - Towers are buildable as sockets and you combine different gems to get effects like the usual slow, area effect, etc which you insert into those sockets. Very interesting TD game(s).

Bloons TD - Whacky TD with monkeys as a theme, and they pop balloons in various forms. Towers are upgradable in paths, lots of maps and different "towers", especially the more recent Bloons TD 5 is highly recommended.

There are quite a few more (as I said above - lots and lots), some have been mentioned, some are quite different to KR or very similar.

Ah, great point. I'd forgotten about that (which is odd, because it's the reason I enjoy them so much)! Still, they do feel quite a bit like KR for some reason...maybe it's the art. In any case, there are very few TD games I stay with, but those are two of them.

Thanks for pointing that out. It's a huge difference in mechanics, so I can see people disagreeing with those suggestions. Cheers!

Well, "similar" is always iffy.^

There are more than one Kingdom Rush games on those flash hosting sites, so maybe OP should start with those.

The only "non-KR" game that comes to mind immediately that is really similar would be "Demonrift TD". I think. Something "Demon... TD". Likewise hosted on those sites.

In fact, I can't stress enough that you should visit Armor Games or Kongregate and browse the TD games there, OP. That's where I go to get a fresh TD fix if I grow tired of the available ones on Steam, anyway. ;)

Do those websites charge "Premium Membership Fees" for the full gaming experience? I did not play Kingdom Rush (or Frontiers) on any other media than PC-Steam. I heard that in other medias (notably in iPad and tablets) the game is full of microtransactions, and to me that sounds like "pay to win". I don't want that.

I can't speak for the other sites, but Armor Games doesn't charge anything; infact, it's where I always played KR. Until I got it as a bonus in a bundle, I didn't even know it came as a standalone game. :)

Kongregate is absolutely free of charge, too.

However, you can opt to get Premium accounts for the site itself / miscrotransactions for some of those games, but those are always purely optional and do not grant you any advantages, merely convieniences or, say, a special christmas character for a certain game or something.
Also most games don't even go there.

Apart from some hosted browser MMOs, which work like any other F2P MMO, you can play every game completely for free without important functions locked behind microtransactions.

Both Defense Zone and Defense Zone 2 are great.

I didn't see Sol Survivor mentioned. That one also has its charms, without getting too unnecessarily 3D and flashy.
