If you happen to be running a really high resolution, maybe the game just doesn't scale well? You could try a lower resolution or having the game run in windowed mode.
I mean while I'm on a level the money and heart amount is very hard to read. Lowering the resolution didn't do anything to make it more readable for me.
You could try the old version of the game. They updated the game last year (I think it was last year) and it uses a new game engine now. The old version is still available and can apparently be installed as a separate version (I've never actually done it). If you go into the game's Properties in Steam, you can select the "Legacy" version on the Betas tab to install it.
Since the old version uses a different game engine, I suspect that it won't have the same problem, but that is totally just a guess.
FYI, the old (legacy) version is pretty much the same, but there are a few differences (apart from the game engine).
In some versions of KR, the Stormcloud Temple map has something called the Sunray tower that you can use, but they didn't include that in the old Steam version for some reason (it's there, sort of, but you can't do anything with it). They added it to the new version, and added an achievement for using it.
The new version has "Veteran" difficulty (I think that it was called "Hard" in the old version), and they added an achievement for completing maps at Veteran difficulty.
The new version also shows you the hardest difficulty that you've completed for any map and mode (Campaign/Heroic/Iron). The old version does not. FYI, if you're interested in getting the achievements for completing all of the maps in a mode, you have to complete them at Normal or Hard difficulty. Casual doesn't count. That has caught many people, and it's a particular problem in the old version, because you can't tell which difficulty you've completed on a map.
They also seem to have just tweaked a lot of the enemies and/or towers in the new version, because some things got a lot harder (there are quite a few posts about that here, with people struggling to complete things in the new version that they had done in the old version). So the old version is noticeably easier in some cases.
