Chromatic Aberration
How do i turn this kinda ugly effect off?!

I don't know what the all the devs have with this Chromatic Aberration, it looks almost like you are watching via 3d-glasses. Maybe on a TV further back it looks good, but a Monitor close to you....Nah!

I don't have the answer, but following in the hopes somebody else does. Games shouldn't ship without the option to turn all these "film" settings off.

Seems there is no way currently. Even if you rewrite the ini file and set all post processing effects to off the Chromatic Aberration is still present in full force.
I have the suspicion its baked into the graphic engine for this game for their "cinematic experience".
Which would suck a lot since i hate that effect.

Well if it really ends up to be the case and there is no way to disable it I simply won't buy the game.

Mainly because I really dislike the effect but also to not support such kind of devs anymore. Even more since the price tag is not very low.

It's sad as I actually like narrative focused games and enjoyed the first game.

However it's not like this was never a topic before in other games that many people dislike effects like this.

In every game they force it in and don't provide an option to disable it people complain about it.

Even Ubisoft in the end delivered a patch for AC Mirage due to the critic but yet still there are developers that see no need to provide options.

And it's not only about chromatic aberration I assume..I didn't see the menu yet but I wouldn't be suprised if Motion Blur, Depth Of Field, Film Grain, Vignete and other effects also can't be turned off.

It's just sad and disappointing that still many devs which claim to care for their audience do the same crap again and again and people have to beg them for options / toggles which simply should be standard these days.

who even came up with this super smart idea of adding chromatic aberration and film grain in games?! if i adjust my OLED-TV or my Monitor for best clartiy and supersharp picture, i try get rid of any strange effects or film grains and the gaming industry simply adds these annoying stuff back.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Thank you for this. Seriously. This makes the game look 100x better.

Note that these disable way more than chromatic aberrations. You're switching off UW aspect ratio (this is done by cutting off sides of visible area so you're getting narrower horizontal FOV), disabling DOF, film grain and lens distortion (which is a separate thing).

r.NT.Lens.ChromaticAberration.Intensity=0 is the only variable needed to be set if all you want is to remove CA.

Why do some developers like visual artefarts so much? Filmgrain in 2024, seriously? Chromatic abberation because our 'virtual lens' is not bad enough? Why, just why. Please, just expose this to an option.

I wish i would know this earlier. Thx. Looks Way better now.

The "why" is simple. It's seen as "more cinematic", they are mimicking the visual artifacts of a real life analog camera. To them, it makes the game feel more organic, less sterile, as if its a movie shot with an analog camera instead of a digital rendering in a graphics engine.

Film grain also serves the valid purpose of hiding "color banding" which sometimes can look more distracting in dark areas then the film grain. But, yes, I totally agree that all of these should be exposed as options. :)

Running in 3 monitor setup, I opted for only these ones, they make the sides of the image more pleasing.
