Was the trailer kinda fake?
I just finished the game and now I have to deal with the fact that the images from the trailer that excited me the most are not actually in the game.

What happen to the ritual and these "wood headed" sort of priests? What happen to the giant on the rocks? And what about the scenary with the arms hanging from ropes?

Hello? Ninja?

Game trailers are almost always fake.
Their sole purpose is to captivate gamers. They use better models, higher levels of detail, better and more effects, more particles, and better textures. Often different scenes are not present in the final game.

A trailer is a trailer.
The trailer you are thinking of with the "priests and ritual" was not from gameplay.
The "giant on the rock" is Saegeirr

Is this the one you are thinking of?
Thats purely a trailer and really does not have anything to do with the gameplay itself.
That giant being close to the sea could very well be represented as Saegeirr we dont know.
As for the ritual and the way Senua is in that trailer it represents her if she lets the darkness take full control of her as can be seen at the very end of the game where there is a glimpse into the future if she gives up control.
As for the hands and arms hanging it just represent the sacrifices that Godi conducts.

The trailer in itself was a announcement trailer for the game and did not feature any gameplay.
This right here was the "official" gameplay trailer that they released https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fukYzbthEVU

Hope this clears up a bit.

Steam seems bit messed up with linking videos so here are the links that you can copy into youtube.

The first trailer released was an annoucement one and that's when they started development so of course a lot of things changed to tie the narrative together. The tree head people are probably place holder for the draugr and the giant shown too. As for Senua's appearance, I think they wanted her to go down an evil kind of road but given the subject matter with her mental illness, they probably scraped it to not appear as they were telling that people with psychosis are just evil.

it was a shame the trailer elements were not included in the game. would have been Awesome.
The ending is certainly not what I expected. I still appreciate this game and its themes, but I personally don't think they necessarily had to make that big revelation in the end. I loved how they tied everything together, and I guess I wanted her journey to stay half self-aware half mythological all to the end. They could have done so much more with Hela, Giants and the Gods, and in the same time making it about what's important: being honoured, loved, feared. The realization is just not very subtle, in my opinion. I still enjoyed the hell out of this game. But I can't shake the feeling the game could've or should've been a bit different...

Probably true. The Hela path could have made her look evil.
Trailers and promotion "screenshots" are always fake. And m0rons fall for it every single time and love to get used to hype up a game, they love being deceived. I know because when I was young I was part of them.

They rarely show something in-game that doesn't end up in the final product though.
Its always touched up and full of BS. it may even be true that its done "In Engine". But you can use Unreal Engine like a rendering software that renders with 0.1 FPS per second. So who the ♥♥♥♥ cares of its done "in Engine". Of they use Unreal Engine as a replacement the usual rendering software. Its just easier for them as they done things already and just bumb up the details and effects to insane levels no GPU can actually render real-time. And they often add effects with other software after the fact. So does not really matter how they produce a trailer it has very little to do with the final product.

Look up Witcher 3 downgrade. They do this stuff to every game, they always make it prettier for promotion and the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about it after.

And screenshots are always airbrushed and heavily photoshopped and never actual screenshots of the actual product how it will look after release.

Bruh.. We talking actual content, not graphical downgrade. Pull your head out of your "smart аrsе" for once. If anything, they stayed loyal to that first trailer graphically-wise, as it showed dynamic clouds system that ended up in the game, character models became even more detailed, etc. We are talking about that sacrifice scene, as well as the giant in the rock scene, with multiple vikings approaching him. Actual content that nowhere to be found in the final product. Graphics, graphics they are phenomenal, wtf?
