Combat is too scripted.
With the melee button removed you can't do the combos you can in the first game and attacking first is useless.

You must block and evade until you see the repetitive pattern, then attack no more then 2 times during the opening in the pattern then repeat until she automatically does a finishing move.

I haven't fought more then one opponent at a time yet but with the swap target buttons also missing and the forced auto-lock on, combat is quickly becoming repetitive and boring.

Sure it looks beautiful but I'm not controlling it. I'm just one of the voices whispering in her head making suggestions.

it's not really a video game you bought, you bought an interactive movie game.

I don't understand how people like you are struggling with figuring out the combat system in this game lol

They threw in the "combat/puzzles" which they have downgraded/cut back on only because they needed something else to add besides just cutscenes.

I don't know how they screwed both the combat/puzzles up so badly... the combat could have been wicked, puzzles could have been more better and interesting, yet they only decided to focus on the visuals while butchering everything else.

These Devs/Companies need to stop focusing on just visuals. I don't care if a game looks life-life, if it's overpriced for overprices sake, I ain't buying it at full price.

Let the Whales/Sheep do that because they have no brain to use, only their wallets.

OP explained in detail how the combat works, what are you on about? Learn to read and comprehend.

They explained they don't know how it actually works. You don't have to "block and evade until you see the repetitive pattern, then attack no more then 2 times during the opening in the pattern then repeat until she automatically does a finishing move" like the OP inaccurately claimed.

You actually still have different attack types, parry timing, combos, and focus, and this game has some of the most fluid animation cancelling in any game. You can seamlessly transition an attack into a dodge if your timing is off and you can also attack while dodging if you see an opening.

I am sure now that you explained how it works, he will change his opinion and really like the game now.

I will probably like it, just not as much as the first. I thought stating I hadn't fought more then one opponent at a time would convey that I'm not very far into the game. Maybe you never fight more then one at a time? :( I've just gotten to the part where I have a prisoner so I do not have focus yet and that's just slomo afaik.

I really liked the combat in the first game. It's so simple yet you still have many options to choose from.

There's even an auto fight option so you can let Senua fight without touching anything.

So you get what's the game is about.

Saga is less focused on combat than Sacrifice.
A lot of people I've seen on Twitch didn't like the combat in Sacrifice, especially against multiple enemies.
They rewordked it in Saga but it doesn't change the point of the game except at one very specific moment but you'd still get the idea of the meaning of that one fight.

Agreed. I don't consider this title a game. Its a interactive movie.
Zero replay.

Combat is way more enjoyable than the first games combat.
You can do a quick attack, heavy attack, dodge and parry.

In the first game you also be attacked from different angles and you had to manually predict this, rotate camera, etc. Voices could also tell you from which side attack is coming. You HAD to listen to them. Now its all gone.

NVM, uninstalled. Combat has gotten even worse. It's guessing which of the 3 choices will function at a given moment. I can't block when I want, I can't strike when I want.

I can't even forking climb when I want. I can only do what the script wants me to do and I have to guess what that is.

The first game is awsome and I want to like this one but it's just too frustrating. When I push the block button, I want her to block, even if it's a mistake FFS!

That's a you problem, I had no issues with the game allowing me to do what I wanted in combat. The animation and input cancelling is fantastic in this game and being able to transition smoothly to a block or dodge from mid-swing feels great.
