Took me 14.7 hours to finish
And people say that it's 4-5 hours long, haha.
Okay, I know it doesn't take 14-15 hours to finish the game for a normal person. Why did it take so long for me then? It's because I've got a couple of hours, max, in photo mode alone.
I would say that it's probably around 10-12 hours long for someone that's taking their time, and not using Shift to run all the time, and enjoys the experience.

14.7 hours seems pretty high. You probably searched every corner for faces and hidden paths, I guess. Which is fine. If that's what you like then all power to you. I personally don't enjoy searching for collectibles that much. So I mostly didn't. I just finished the game at 8.1 hours. Which is probably what many others will have as well. And it's a perfectly fine length for a game of this kind.

5 hours is nonsense and doesn't reflect the average experience whatsoever, I think we can agree on that. What people mean when they say 5 hours is that they can find youtube videos that are like 5:20 long. None of them have actually watched those videos (so it's even possible they contain cuts, as those walkthrough videos often do). And they just don't represent what the average player will do. HLTB is proof of that. Doesn't matter that it's possible to beat it in 5:20. Most players will take longer.

I will also say that it was a fantastic experience which I won't forget for a while. This kind of experience is worth a lot more to me than the next generic open world game. Hoping for a successor in a few years. :)

what this means is you took your time and went for the experience rather than run through it ignoring what the game is actually about. a lot of people who are hating on the game have just rushed imo. i am around 7 hrs in and loving it. i stop to listen to all the totems and tree story bits, walk rather than run everywhere so that i don't miss a face or a side turning as well as wanting to appreciate the design the devs have clearly put a lot of effort into. i watch my youngest play games and he just flies through everything and when i say to him slow down and look at what they have built he just looks at me as if i am crazy lol. i said people have invested 6 years of their lives creating this. the least you can do is look at it haha.

I have loved the game so far. it feels different from the 1st in that there is very little choice about the order you do things and the combat, for me, seems easier. but thetimes there is action it can be exhausting and genuinely tense. More puzzles would have been nice and certainly more complex puzzles.

it's a solid 8.5 / 10 for me. Visuals and sound are 10/10. story 9/10, combat 6.5/10, puzzles 6.5 / 10.

Those are people who sprinted through the entire game Ignoring the wonderful scenery and environmental storytelling. They expected some action rpg and probably wanted to turn the annoying voices off.

None of these people get the fact that this is not an action game, an rpg or even a puzzle game. This is primarily an interactive story about experiencing what it is to live with the internal struggle of psychosis with historical and mythological elements.

This game is a work of art, but sadly it seems about 90% of gamers are too low-brow to understand it. They bought it thinking it was something they wanted it to be then proceed to complain about it when it wasn't.

My time to beat game with medium combat overall 11 hours, plus exploring such amazing environments. My game score 10/10. Let's try in hard combat...

I'm at 8.5 hours and I'm pretty close to the end. I've spent a bit of time in photo mode and some time messing with ini settings though. I'd say actually playing I'm at around 7 hours

On my end it took me 10-11 hours to finish it. Now I'm on my way to discover 2 more Lorestangirs and 4 hidden faces I've missed.

you are the type of game taking 1-2 hours to finish Pineapple on Pizza

Average non speedrun run is roughly 8-10 hours. (Longer if you go for all lorestangirs and such)

Except this is not true at all if you look at howlongtobeat. The vast majority of players aren't spending 3 hours in the camera mode and they aren't walking when there's generally no reason to go slower (unless you want to look at rock #4576 in great detail).

I found all but two of the collectables (so spent a decent amount of time searching) and finished in 7.5 hours. I enjoyed the game. But lying about the reality of it isn't going to help anyone.

Main + extras = 8 hours 3 minutes on average

Completionist = 9 hours 15 minutes

An 'average run' is not main + extras or completionist. Especially not for a game like this that is entirely linear. It's main, which is 7 hours on average. If you want to be really generous to his statement, look at the average of all playstyles, which is still under 8 hours.

Claiming a completionist run (which is still an hour shorter than the upper limit of his 'average run') as normal once again just shows how much copium you guys are high on.

I enjoyed the game, but stop trying to sell it as 25%+ longer than it really is. It will only lead to disappointment from those who believe what you're saying, and then purchase the game based on that belief.

Im not really lying now am I? I gave a estimate between 8 to 10 hours which is a fair timeframe for finishing the game. You need to take to account that people can get stuck on a puzzle or a event that will take more time to finish. Or simply that everyone is different and will play at their own speed.

fyi we currently speedrun Hellblade II on a average run of 2 hours and 20 minutes. 8-10 hours is fair for an average player to finish the game.
