Here's a description of each face (from memory, but I DID launch the game to confirm):
:D (Gleeful emoticon, green) = dream job. High happiness factor.
:) (Classic Smiley, neon green/yellowish) = not his/her dream job, but they won't complain
: | (the "meh" face, yellow) = they'll do it, but they will fill the SpaceFace page with grumbling. Try not to assign jobs with a "meh" factor.
:( ("I am disappoint" face, orange) = they're NOT happy when you assign a job with this moniker. They do NOT want to perform this job. However, you see raiders coming and your security staff is too low, you'll have to no choice to assign more people to security, even if they'll hate it. Just remember to CHANGE IT BACK AFTERWARD.
>:( (The "FU, F the world" face, red) = wanna see someone rampage around your base breaking things soon after they're reassigned? Then pick a job with this emblem. These denote jobs they hate PASSIONATELY. Remember, the angrier the citizen, the more likely that they'll start running around smashing things and punching others like someone possessed. DO NOT ASSIGN THESE JOBS UNLESS THEY'RE ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.
Sometimes you just can't help but assign jobs to citizens below thier preference level, ESPECIALLY during the first eight minutes of the game when you need all three to be builders in order to get your base started. Just make sure that once you can get them inside, REASSIGN THEM. It'll be a while before you can get beds set up, leisure rooms arranged, and ESPECIALLY the bar/resturant, and you'll have to deal with thier moods until then, so when more citizens join, try to switch the more senior staff into more preferable occupations.
Hope this helps.
Hey, go ahead. I should have thought of writing a guide for this game - it would have been my first one. But since I didn't, I'll gladly hand over the text to you. I would be honored.
I have guys that are :) with yellow or orange backgrounds
