Loot Grind mixed with Castle Crashers.

Good foundation, but needs complexity in it's loot if it really wants to be a "looter." As of now gear doesn't really modify combat in a meaningful way. It should be doing bold things like adding new attacks to combo chains, giving new abilities and shaping the way you fight. Simply adding on "This attack now makes someone bleed," or "Generate more focus(ability resource) with 'x move' when attacking" are very boring. What cool things happen when mobs are bleeding that opens up more combat possibilities? The causes(current gear modifiers) are all different, but the effect is the same: Deal more damage; and that means that loot becomes a hassle and not a fun system. You simply look what makes attacks have the biggest number, find what modifiers are optimal and you have 'solved' the game.

There should be loot that wants you to mark every mob on the screen so that when you pull off a combo finisher lightning bounces between them all, or loot where you can mark someone as a bomb so that you want to try to drag/knock them into a group of enemies to explode, maybe when the Rockbreaker stuns people they get earthen bindings around their ankles for awhile so that you can play around that. Maybe there's loot that makes your burning effect cause fear, where the mobs run around like crazy. Take ideas from the exotics/legendaries of other looters and apply them to this genre.

Very fun, take the game for what it is, a side scroller beat'em up. They are repetitive and not a ton of depth. But, if your older like myself all these sort of games are that way from Final Fight to Golden Axe. This game is pretty well polished and it really fun to play with friends.
