Parasites not moving

I'm trying to get the ending where you save Paul and his family and Sarah. I have gotten all of the parasites and I am on the part where I have to find the female. I saw some other gameplays, and in their videos their parasites are standing up and moving. Mine's aren't moving at all, and their all stuck in the same position. I have no way of telling which parasite is the female. How am I supposed to find the female parasite? Did I miss a part?

If none of the parasites are moving at all, then they are dead rather than alive. Normally, you would move the vials around and see how they react to their neighbors to determine the species and which is the female/male

How do I keep them alive then? I've seen people do the exact route as me, so I'm stuck knowing how to keep the parasites alive.

Are they curled up or are they kinda holding onto the glass? If they're upright, they are alive. The game does a really weird job in telling you what to do. In order to figure out which one is female, rotate the parasites using the menu with the arrows (do NOT click on the arrow underneath the tube slots until you are sure). If they are staying still, they might be male. If you have one in the middle and 2 on the opposite sides start clawing at the glass, the one in the middle will be female. It took me and my friends a good while to figure out since I had one that was dead.

If you cure the infected animals the parasites should be alive, but if you use lethal injections then your parasites will be dead.

Are you curing them? Or killing the animals?
