Because it does, go look at a game like Soma and then compare it to Lethal Company and you'll see for yourself.. If they make a separate multiplayer mode and it doesn't affect at all the single player then fine if not they mind as well just make the game multiplayer cuz im not playing it. You guys say y'all want the game but how many of you will actually be playing the game a yr from now? If the game is single player and good i'll be playing it 10yrs from now.
It would remove all the scare if you had a friend with you while you goof around looking for what could be some hidden mutant insect hiding under your next save station.
How do you know that for a fact? The thing is the people that are too afraid to play these games probably still wouldn't buy them just to play with friends anyways... On discord i think one of the devs said that the game is so scary that one of the animators or something said that they wont play the game bcs it's too scary, and that's one of the devs saying that lol...
Like i said before, if they have to change the single player in any way to accommodate to co-op/multiplayer then i think it would be bad but if they could add co-op or multiplayer without affecting the single player then sure everybody wins.
But the thing is it all depends on how skilled the devs are and how much support (money) they have. This is going to be their second game i think, can they do this? Or idk maybe it would be better for now just to focus on single player and after release make a multiplayer spin-off or a multiplayer dlc for this game, than possibly having issues and the game coming out all messed up because they chose to chew more than they can bite :/
Also there's the money issue, renting/buying servers for multiplayer depends on a lot of things but it can go from just a few bucks to hundreds or even thousands of dollars each month and you also have to worry about maintenance and security (ddos attacks for ex), for a bigger studio it might not be an issue but for a smaller one it might.
Idk for any indie devs out there that have made multiplayer games probably know more about this than me but i do know one thing i rarely see a game that was initially made for single player having to adapt to multiplayer being good and standing next to other games like Soma for ex. in terms of quality...
