I Like the Companions
As one who is strictly a solo player, even in MMOs that cater to it (over 4,000 hours 99% solo in Guild Wars 1), I love games that provide Companions/Henchmen/Heroes.

Having played through the EA with both Mage and Techno I just wanted to say how impressed I am with the companions. Character designs, voice acting, and personalities. I like the occasional interjections and banter. I like that they all have some element of a side-story in the making. I think the three of them make for a well balanced party.

All in all... they were well introduced, and made me feel like I was making some new friends.

Mick - My main melee man! Totally dig that steam boot long jump and hammer-slam move.
Letta - Achingly beautiful gunslinger.😍 Pistols all the way. And a jetpack!
Maghda - Actually a decent healer/smiter. She's the only one I wasn't sure about with that... you know, like, lovestruck teenage angst thing going on, but she quickly grew on me.

I'm wondering if we'll eventually be able to respec in this game and change their stats/build, like in BG3. I like what they did in BG3, and I'm reluctant to make that comparison, but, as someone already pointed out, it did set a high standard.

But in some ways, for this game, I like the idea of the Companion's stats being fixed. Make it so it's a "work with what you get" and think carefully about your skills kind of thing. And I am curious how the companion approval rating is going to work.

Are these the only companions in the game?

As far as we know, yes.

But there are going to be six different classes, basically, so they could possibly bring in other companions that would be Tesla, Occult and Voodoo (1 tech, 2 magic). The three we have now are Diesel, Steam and Celestial (1 magic, 2 tech). That would allow the player to build a party around whatever class they play. Assuming they keep the party size at 4, you'd have to decide which ones to take.

Or... could be that what we see is what we get. Time will tell.
