This way, you wouldn't lose immersion, but it would have to be done to companions as well so that it's consistent.
On other hand i would pretty much like option of adding custom portrait alike how it's done in games like Rogue Trader and Pathfinder WOTR.

What I would like to have are matched portraits to customization presets, that you can choose together.
