I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS!!!!!! Cheers! Making Optimus have a mouth piece instead of the "wise warrior behind the mask" is a cheap shot from Hasbro. The toy company has tried its best to destroy their established characters over the past decade or so.

Some people believe Michael Bay is responsible for the lips, as much as I dislike his directing skills (he should keep making military movies not fictional stuff), it was Hasbro. Beast Wars (great show btw) had a successor called Optimus Primal, by all accounts the features in his face where mostly Prime material, but there it was... The mouth and with it the evidence it has been something Hasbro has tried to do, "humanize" the transformers. BAH! Hate them.

i havent seen allot of transformers after G1 i did play WFC and FOC but i cant say much
but G1 optimus IMO was already a very human character he could be nice strict silly (at times) or get really mad and what made him awesome to me was that you could see all these things with out needing to see a face it was threw his words and actions and even his eyes sometimes

i cant get mad at Hasbro (well i can but i dont see the point) but they make allot of dumb choices

Yeah, I meant more of a visual humanization, but you are spot on, every line you wrote I can agree with.

Regardless, I am waiting on this one (FoC was a day 1 buy for me), the movie tie in has created serious concerns for me, I need reviews and metacritic. Since in theory I do want half the game I guess I could wait a few years to get a discount (50% should do).

well in the G1 episode he got rebuilt

to me he stopped being Orion pax and became Optimus and if you count WFC he then became a prime when he got the matrix

but transformers canon has allot of plot holes and inconsistencies
i just say its all canon and non canon at the same time
i don't think it really matters that much just pick your favorite parts and say there your canon

Optimus lips since '96. This Optimus is not the first one who has lips, here's a list:

Beast Wars Optimus Primal
Beast Wars TransMetal Optimus Primal
Beast Wars TransMetal Optimus Primal (aka Optimal Optimus)
Beast Machines Optimus Primal
Energon Optimus Prime (figure only!)
Cybertron Optimus Prime (has a faceplate in super-mode)
Transformers (movie)
Animated Optimus Prime (has a faceplat in battle mode)

However he's still werid with lips. Certain version are OK like the BW or TM2 Optimus was OK. Cybertron Optimus looks bad, not beacuase the design but more like the animation style and quality.
