flashback remake
First i want to say iam a big fan of the original. So as soon as the game came out on xbox i rushed out and purchased it. Foolish. I am not gonna say anything bad about the game, just judge it for your selves. But if this was made by the core original team theres not much hope for flashbacks future.
Just play the original, it has bettar graphics, bettar sound and music and overall the game is bettar paced. The new enemys are really nothing compared to the old ones.

If you don't rember the original flashback theres a good chance you might like it.

I too am fan of original Flashback and it kinda surprised me to see a remake (especially in full 3D). Wasn't really big fan of its sequel Fade to Black, despite my 3Dfx card was able to run it flawlessly, simply because the charm got lost in 3D. What is putting me off with this title is this quote: "Bringing back new memories. The story was revamped to speak to 21st century gamers." Its early for me to judge since I haven't played it, but my first impression is that it wouldn't do justice to the original version, especially for those of us who played it back in 90s.

so it's a $10 version of this beaten-to-death tone? Ugh...

The 3D doesn't bother me.

What bothers me is that the gameplay doesn't resemble classic Flashback. Why am I picking up health nodes? Why am I not incinerated instantly by an electrical pulse on the ground? Why am I not seeing any savages with rifles? Why does crouching no longer matter?

They took the layouts and made it a run and gun. That's it.

Hmm.. that kinda ruins the game is that's true. You're supposed to die instantly if you fail or getting shot (unless the armor is powered up). If it's not difficult like that, it ain't Flashback.

I kind of felt there was no adventure in this remake. Dodging bullets in the orginal felt so good. The original combat was actually really tight and felt skill based. I just think they missed the point why so many people loved the originall. Its all can a bit syndicate.

Also I remember getting hit would normally cause you to be knocked down to the ground. Don't see any of that happening in this remake.

Galamantyl, I agree with you, but even with these problems I liked the game. I will try to play in expert mode with all hints disabled. I think that doing this the game will be similar with the 1993 version. I just played the first stage and the begining of New Washington. There are some bugs in VR training (I saw them only in VR yet).

i remember the jungle level from the original , fun times

My favourite level was always the reactor level. I loved pulling of a perfect run it was so rewarding.

The original Flashback is an old pc game. This one is a new xbox game. And it shows.

Core team eh? Just out of curiosity, how many PC games did this "core team" make since 1993?

Another thing: am I dreaming or in this game you collect health nodes, health regenerates overtime AND you have health stations?

Health Nodes - Modern gamers suck at difficult games
Not incinerated - Modern gamers suck at difficult games
Savages with rifles - Modern gamers... eh you get the picture already

Whenever a remake is made of a classic game they always dumb it down because the average I.Q level seems to have dropped sharply since the 90s and any part of a game that requires the player to think, use the controls to their fullest extent or react fast will cause an uproar of "omg this is too hard" or "omg i'm stuck at this bit this game sucks" etc. etc.

It's the choppy animations that get me, and that you auto-run instead of having to hold a button, part of the original Flashbacks charm was to take your time and think things through instead of going in guns-a-blazin'.

^Well said.

You all need to watch the movie Idiocracy to understand why games, gamers and the general masses are getting dumber. It's not just a dumbed down for consoles thing.

Indeed. I downloaded the demo and shut it off after 2mins of play. This game is the farthest thing from Flashback.

Well, it's not just the remakes, have you seen the latest wave of QTE filled interactive movies?? Everybody raves about Ryse, a game filled with this huge button mashing prompts ocupying a big part of the screen.

I guess it's not only that gamers are going dumb, they must be going blind too.

BTW
You gotta try Duck Tales and Castle of Illusion, not all remakes are a failure.

True, the Shadow Warrior reboot is an excellent example of how to refresh an old game, and I'm expecting the Oddworld: Abe's Odysee - New & Tasty remake to be very good too. I wouldn't be trying Ducktales or Castle Of Illusion though, for starters I'm not a fan of Disney, and after having spent large portions of my childhood playing through Castle Of Illusion (and it's sequal World Of Illusion on both single player and 2 player), I can't imagine that particular remake would live up to the expectations I would have of it.

But then that's another problem with remaking a classic game, many of us remember the originals as amazing and magical, so the only way a remake is going to be good in our eyes is if it managed to make us feel like that little kid again, sitting infront of the T.V with a huge grin on our face, controller in hand as we managed to get to the next cutscene or find some new way to kill enemy 'x' etc.
