Wow, Arcane Veil really got nerfed. Was it that OP?

In medium armor I could fight in melee on the hardest difficulty and not even pay attention to my health until veil went on cooldown. It was significantly stronger than the other auras and arguably a must-take skill for all classes.

The game felt off and I was not sure why until I saw a comparison to Oblivion. A game from 2006. Then it clicked.

Awoved is static, the world feels dead. Every conversation and action is scripted, and outside of those scripted moments nothing interesting ever happens. Guards don't react to anything, you can steal things with no one really caring, there are no unscripted conversations between npc's etc... Attacking non-hostile npcs does nothing as far as I can tell.

Edit: "there are no unscripted conversations between npc's" The npcs stand near each other, statically pretending to be talking with each other at all times, not just when they are having a conversion when the player passes by, creating an odd silent atmosphere. They have seemingly no schedule, making for poor immersion.

The writing seems fine, nothing horrendous there so far. The lore is good, but that is because this is in the vein of pillars of eternity 1 and 2. The characters somewhat bland so far, but perhaps too early to tell. Combat feels shallow but entertaining enough for a while. But the game world being so dead, and me realizing it, sucks so much of the fun out of it. Also, not a fan of the loot system, getting a thousand basic wands or daggers, and then just choosing one to upgrade over and over and over....

Maybe the story will make up for it, but so far it feels too shallow.
Some of this is just objectively false. NPC's do converse audibly when you walk near them (though you edited your comments, there is still an ambiance track just like all games with some background conversation like noise), Guards do react to hostile NPC's, both inside and outside of the city. NPC's do have schedules and walk around the city at certain times of the day, often visiting their homes, beds, and market places. Combat is much more interesting on Path of the damned where food and other consumables are much more necessary, depending on build.

Also NPC's do react often when you steal, they will say something like "Hey that's evidence" or "I was saving that for later", but the story writes it off as you being a high level official that no one wants to challenge.

Obsidian, this game has such engaging combat systems and environments, but meaningful reasons to doing anything are where this game suffers. Start with reworking items/crafting and increasing accessibility to the skill tree. All of those systems have so much potential in this game.

If this fixes my Fatal error, Rejoice I will.

Just keep in mind this guy literally doesn't even own the game and that should tell you all you need to know about the discourse around this game.

SAME

Outside of that I'm loving this game.

I'm also laughing at the cowards with so little to do in their lives outside of express how cowardly and hateful they are.

The only people that care about that stuff (I don't even want to know what their beef is with this particular game, honestly, and I'm not looking it up) are tiny little children with way, way too much time on their hands.

Not a fan of the change to Arcane Veil :( %50 dmg reduction should atleast be like the final tier of the spell, or a secret tier if you upgrade the spell fully and then cast it with a grimoire

Thanks for the update! I'm sad to hear Arcane Veil's been nerfed, but we'll see how it feels. I'd also love to see a capstone passive ability for the Wizard tree!

I saw that this game has weapons clipping through walls. This is a student level issue, it should have been fixed in the first place.
Hello, there is no HDR on the PC version.

Are you going to add more HUD options like the one I requested to turn off the enemy HUD only and have it as a new option we can toggle?

Having an all or nothing HUD(on/off) is not an option I am used to in other RPG and ARPGs.

Thanks
