Not anymore. You can change / override the DLSS version in the nvidia app. If you have a 5000 series card you can also change regular frame generation into multi frame generation. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 for example comes with DLSS 3 but you can override it in the Nvidia app to use DLSS 4 instead. And the difference is literally night and day. DLSS 4 is insanely good. Which is why it really sucks that the Nvidia app doesn't recognize avowed properly.
Yeah something is really wrong with the Nvidia App, in many Games (Avowed included) I can't select Filters anymore. The only choice is RTX HDR and thats it. I don't have a 50xx card so I probably don't have to much insight about the DLSS 4. So far I used DLSS Swapper but it only covers up to 3 I think.
I can't complain either with a 4070ti Super + 7800x3d. But, as you stated, this problem is really annoying since we know our cards can do better. There seems to be a solution, at least regarding putting the dlss transformer model into Avowed:

Some people in the thread were able to get it done with the OP's suggestions, but I haven't seen anything about how to get MFG for RTX5000 cards to work. My problem now is that since I upgraded to Windows 11, every time I try to run Nvidia Profile Inspector (which is needed for the fix described in the linked thread), I get an unhandled exception error and then crashes when trying to use the program. No one else on the internet that I've seen has had the same specific error as me, so I'm not sure where to go from here. So, it looks like I'll be waiting for the Nvidia app to work properly with Game Pass games.
I have multiple Game Pass games that don't show up at all in the Nvidia App and I haven't seen anyone being able to add them manually. At least Avowed partially showed up; just like you I have the game controller pictogram showing up by the game in the Nvidia App. For me, it showed the options to change the driver settings for the game after reinstalling the app (unlike what happened to you). I'm using the 572.16 driver since I had a problem with the driver that came after. I'm not sure if a driver difference would help in your situation, but it might be worth a try.
use dll swapper to change the game to use 3.810.2.1
then try setting stuff in nvidia app
3.810 is dlss 3. The first dlss 4 transformer model was 310.1, currently on 310.2.1. OP wants dlss 4 features and the Nvidia App isn't working as of yet for Avowed.
310.2.1 was what i meant. i cant remember all the silly numbers they add to the end.
seems to work for me. without altering the dlss i dont get any override options in the nvidia app for avowed
using 310.2.1 i can select from a pulldown list like preset J etc
dont have a 50xx series card to test mfg
but can select latest for standard frame generation using dlss 310.2 which is the latest for the frame generation part
I'm able to do the same in the Nvidia App, but when the game runs, it is still running preset C. I checked using the DLSS developer options "show on-screen indicator" and set it to "Enabled for all DLSS dlls", in the DLSS Swapper settings. Although I changed it to preset J in the nvidia app, for me it's showing in the bottom left corner of the screen "Render Preset: C", along with other info. Were you able to verify which preset is running?
i will defer to you saying that although its saying preset J/latest in the app, its not running it in the game.
have you tried dlsstweaks to alter the preset?
A little tip with Profile Inspector ..... Go in and save your Control Panel/Nvidia App settings then DDU your drivers, reinstall everything, start up Profile Inspector and then restore the Control Panel/Nvidia App settings so you don't have to manually do each game again.
How did you go about using DLSS Swapper. Was this so you could use FSR frame gen with dlss? If so I'm trying to figure this out, but am lost. Have been able to install similar mods easily. This one has me stumped.
Thanks for the suggestion, just tried that and can confirm preset J is now running. The game is noticeably sharper as hoped for, but tall grass in motion looks noisier than preset C at 4k (especially dlss performance). Also lost 3.5% game performance after the change using the 4070ti Super, about as much as expected.
you could try preset E which is supposed to be the best preset for dlss 3.5 content.
preset K is the latest preset for dlss 4 - havent checked if dlsstweaks or nvidia profile inspector have preset k as an option though
The Nvidia App and gamepass games are notorious for not working right.
Mine says settings aren't available.
