Avowed
Processor that does not have the proper updates
When I launch Avowed in Steam, I receive an error that suggest that I need to update my BIOS. The game still launches and I don't run into any performance errors.

Before the most recent patch (Patch 1.3), this message never popped before. I have tried launching other games and this error doesn't show. I have also tried reinstalling the game, updating my graphics card, and verified the game files.

The error reads:

Avowed-Win64-Shipping.exe has detected your computer is using an intel 13th or 14th generation processor that does not have the proper updates installed to address potential processor instability issues. It is highly recommended to update your BIOS on your motherboard to the latest version with Intel's microcode 0x 12B or later.

CPU Name: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700F
Motherboard Name: PRO B660M-A CEC WIFI DDR4 (MS-7D37)
BIOS Release Date: 08/26/2022
Microcode Version 0x104

Same, I don't even know what this is supposed to mean, and google doesn't either.
I used some Intel diagnostic tools for good measure and they showed nothing wrong.

have you tried, idk, updating the bios? youre using a 3 year old bios. most recent was october 15th 2024, it updates a bunch of microcodes and patches things needed for the game

Here's a link to Intel article about the issue, if you are curious: https://community.intel.com/t5/Blogs/Tech-Innovation/Client/Intel-Core-13th-and-14th-Gen-Desktop-Instability-Root-Cause/post/1633446

But the TLDR is, 13th and 14th gen intel processors have a fault that will eventually cause the processor to fry. The remedy is installing microcode 0x12B by the way of upgrading your motherboard's BIOS. How to do that varies depending on motherboard vendor/type.

You should find out what motherboard you have, then go to manufacturer's support page and download, then install, the latest BIOS.

For OP's motherboard (PRO B660M-A CEC WIFI DDR4), that would be here: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B660M-A-CEC-WIFI-DDR4/support

Of course google has the answer so why say it doesn't. Intel 13th and 14th gen cpu issues have been reported for 2 years now. With fixes via bios updates for a year now. And yes there are other games that have a warning message as well. Except they're less intrusive.

I find this warning to be extremely annoying. No i will NOT update my bios. I don't need to update it. I have all the settings for voltages and watts set correctly manually. And my system is amazingly stable.

REMOVE THIS DAMN WARNING

So, before the patch, my BIOs wasn’t an issue. After the patch it’s an issue? Why would my BIOs be the problem if the only thing that changed was the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ patch?

The problem was there before the patch. It has nothing to do with the patch, or the game.

The patch just made you aware of it.

Aware and extremely intrusive aren't really the same thing. Other games they make you aware of it. It doesn't stop the game from loading/playing. This update we get this WARNING MESSAGE and game will not load until we acknowledge the message. I'd be ok if we only had to do this once. But it's every time we try to play the game. It was already bad enough we have to hit escape so many times just to get the load screen. So it used to be like this;

We select Avowed in Steam and hit PLAY
Wait for game to compile shaders
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
Load game

Now it's this

We select Avowed in Steam and hit PLAY
We get the WARNING MESSAGE stopping the game from loading
We hit OK to acknowledge the message
Wait for game to compile shaders
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
ESCAPE
Load game

Hitting escape 6 times was bad enough. Now we get this added bullsheit. Just pisses me off. And especially as I will NOT update my bios.

a problem that doesn't cause issues is not a problem.
Same! I have just received. I checked on the motherboard website in order to see if there's any updates, but no, there isn't...

Edit: I have the last BIOS update, I always try to have it updated.
