Comparing to a old gothic - there's 0 interaction with objects and NPC's here.. game is worse than 20y old games with reactive/living world.
Game is great
Like, it can't even mechanically hold it's own against a 2006 game:

So it's hard to exactly call it "Game of the year" but it doesn't look bad for what it is either. I don't think 90 CAD is what I am up for paying to try it; but I might pick it up someday on sale for like $30 or so, even if I have to wait a year or two.
Believe me I do believe and can verify that claim. But they also came out swinging at first announcement how it was going to be a "Skyrim killer".
That's the only reason you are playing and attempting to quantify this... "genre-lite" of everything game.
Being a gamer who started on ATARI, played the first Black Isle/Obsidian games, I've seen more bugs and design flaws than I could ever count, I have this.. (apparently superhuman) ability to overlook things I don't like in games, and focus on what I do like, thus imbibing the experience with increased pleasure. The more critical of you would call it tunnel vision, the more pleasant of you would call it benefit of the doubt.
NOTHING will ever "kill Skyrim." You'd have to go back in time to do that. But the music, environments, style, feelings evoked - yes, will remind you of Skyrim. It was clearly in some ways inspired by. But I've been playing Elder Scrolls games since the launch of first one, ARENA, so I've seen plenty of games inspired by Elder Scrolls. Doesn't make them bad. Doesn't mean you have to judge them based solely on the corellation.
Suggestion to all gamers: Deign to enjoy games. You'll enjoy yourself more. Games were not always, and will not always be, your favorite games of all time. Doesn't mean they're "bad." This isn't doing the dishes or going to a funeral. Sit back and pop a smile on, see what develops.
If you showed this to a non gamer, they would think Avowed was the game from 2006
Imagine that Avowed cost 80m...... 80m......................
People keep attacking critique of this game, but look at the low sales and concurrent numbers here on steam (PC) everything in this project feels like it was a experience lesson for newcomers to the industry.... (we know it is) but why ask such a premium and market it as a high quality aRPG, when its a generic Action Adventure with light RPG elements...
If this game was 40 euro.. then people would have given it a chance and accepted the jank and simplistic gameplay and shallow characters and illusionary agency.
i`ve put 15 hours into opening area and still not done. playing at 4k max settings and the game looks phenomenal, that includes lighting lol. all of your points are pretty silly as someone who has actually played the game. modern gaming community is hilarious

Some people like the purple glowing haze that almost blur out the details (this is an intentional design choice to cover lack of detail)
As the video in this thread showcase, this game is really on a low technical level and the world does not seem immersive, it feels lifeless.. almost like a static ride with puppets on certain markers..... There is no real agency, there is no real consequence in the living lands world.
In many ways this could be a game from 2006.. ofc the graphics have progressed, but for a 2025 game, that is not impressive either tbh.. The gameplay is so safe and simplistic..
That being said, I fully understand that some people like more simplistic gameplay, shallow characters (Petal admitted to this !!!!!) and no agency.. it just seems odd in a game you wanna call an RPG..
This is more of a entry level Action Adventure with light RPG elements... I reckon it could be a decent starting point for young newcomers into gaming.
