Why did i leave Dawnshore in the east but arrived in Emerald Stair in the west?

Why did i leave Dawnshore in the east but arrived in Emerald Stair in the west?

So i thought i was just going over a bridge to a new map location just to the east of Dawnshore. But when i get to Emerald Stair i'm now west of Dawnshore? There was no mention of a boat.
at first i thought maybe the map was inverted, until i looked at the map of the Living Lands and notice the Emerald Stair was indeed to the west.

You took the scenic route. I don't know, that was one of the strangest things there.
There was also the part where Kai told you that the short cut "west passage" was destroyed.
