Steel Resolve - homestead bugged?

I get to the cage in the abandoned homestead, but cant open it or interact with the person in the cage. Any solution?

That quest was bugged for me on my first playthrough. While I could talk to that guy, I couldn't talk to one of the others and couldn't advance it. I ended up googling the quest, and going to the place where you find a map, or a note, after which I got the next objective and could complete it. I believe doing it in an unexpected order may cause some npc's to be unresponsive for whatever reason.

I just did this quest again, and in case anyone else runs into this problem - you have to freeze the cage to break it open.

ahh, thx! How did you find that out?

A snowflake icon should show when you get close to the bars, unless you have it disabled somehow. Most metal grates can be busted with the ice grenade (eye of rymrgand)

I have disabled some of the UI, so that could be the reason
