Avowed
stealth doesnt really seem to work or exist.
The stealth hit ability damage is inconsistent, and makes you stand up breaking stealth often after use. Ranged stealth doesnt work either, bows dont seem to be able to 1 shot with a headshot regardless of weapon quality or build, and breaks stealth immediately if its not a 1 hit kill.

Stealth seems to be more like a singular attack of opportunity. And once you attack from stealth, your companions will simply engage in open combat. At least that's what happened in my case.

In my experience stealth works just as in many other games, i.e., you can hide in the bushes and backstab an unsuspecting enemy. If others notice you they'll become alerted, if not, you can sneak up to another one and repeat. It's not always possible, though, and I'm not sure a fully stealth playstyle would be viable.

I use The Long Touch bow enchanted for Crits, upgraded to Superb+2. Plus 2nd totem + all gear for Crits, Critical damage and Bow damage, and maybe bonus to Unaware and Full health enemies.
Well, it one-shots basic enemies almost every time, my total crit chance is about 70 I think. And sometimes medium enemies get killed from one headshot.
But yes, you are detected after the first kill almost every time.

Stealth in this game, like most other mechanics, is an objective downgrade from RPG's that came out years ago.

But if I complain, I'm the problem.

Honestly bro, if you frame your posts and replies in a way that isn’t negative, I don’t think you would catch any flack. This is an aspect of Avowed where we actually agree, I don’t love the stealth in it, and I think there’s significant room for improvement. But saying your opinion is “objective” and tacking on that last sentence, you come off as being not open to cordial discussion.

Oh, so I should be POSITIVE about the fact that what this game calls stealth is basically useless, since it only works for two or three mobs per encounter at max, there's only a small handful of quests where stealth determines the outcome, and there's no theft penalty whatsoever outside of combat?

Or are you suggesting that this is somehow an UPGRADE over the stealth mechanics in Skyrim or New Vegas?

If you expect stealth to work as a group, attacking another group, it doesn't work that way, even in real life.

Normally when a single stealth attack happens, then the rest of the group you attach become aware.

So, if you are in a group, and you stealth attack one person in a group, the rest will react.

You can leave the group in camp if you wish, so play solo. Then the outcome of the game is different, as now you fight large groups solo, but can get a single solo attack to work, but if others are around, you will be found and die.

lol right, like I said, you don’t come off as being open to cordial discussion. I reached out an olive branch and agreed with you that the stealth mechanics in Avowed aren’t great, I admit this even though I enjoyed the game and you seemingly didn’t. But we can’t have a conversation about it if you’re going to have a nasty attitude like this, being unnecessarily snarky and coming up with random assumptions on my opinions (for example, if I said the stealth mechanics in Avowed are flawed, why would you assume that I think they’re better than Skyrim or New Vegas when I didn’t hint to that at all?).

100% for people that have moved on, they continue to post negative comments here.

it reminds me more of a sneak attack.
This isn't Skyrim, 1 hit stealth archery was not intended.

This game is definately not designed for a full stealth model of play. It is possible to avoid notice when yo ubackstab someone as long as you actually kill them, but it's very difficult. And of course, once you get noticed, your companions will immediately aggro as well. Use stealth to get a good first strike/surprise attack, but don't expect to Assassin's Creed or Skyrim Stealth Archer the game. The ranger invisiblity might get you another sneak attack in the middle of combat, but the cooldown is long enough you won't get much more.

Then maybe they shouldn't have made Skyrim comparisons during pre-release marketing, and instead tried to distance themselves. In this area in particular, they could have explicitly stated what the differences in stealth in Avowed versus Skyrim are.

Instead, they made no mention of those differences, but every gameplay trailer had the Envoy making sneak attacks.

If you can't one shot enemies, then you probably has underleveled weapon. This game has very easy to exploit progression system. You can play as completionist and outlevel enemies in every zone with gear upgrades for at least one higher tier. You can exploit progression mechanics and totaly outlevel anything you will face for almost entire game, crafting superb weapon in Dawnshore. Or you can run through critical path just for the story, but the game is a RPG so it will be harder. You will be forced to buy better gear for scaling purpose to even the odds.

Many comments say that progression system in Avowed is bad, but they expect to progress without using it. The core of RPG experience is improving what your character can do and geting better and better gear.

Also in the mid to late game you can learn sniper perk to increase damage of shots fired from stealth. Stealth is OP tbh thanks to Shadowing Beyond (invisibility).

I can take a maxed out unique into the starter area, and have had enemies not be one-shot.
