Also, if you're looking for gold, gems have no other use and can be safely sold for gold.
Gloves and boots you don't want to use are good to sell, as you can't break them down into crafting materials.
Weapons and armor can be broken down into crafting materials, which you will need to upgrade your gear. And the basic materials can be crafted into higher tier materials.
So selling weapons and armor is a harder call.
The grenades: basic grenade, fire (magram), ice (rymangand) and others can be decent sources of income, depending on your play style. You can craft basic grenades at the Cooking fire, and the others are fairly common harvest finds-oddly enough, grenades that freeze your enemies or water *do* grow on trees in Eora :D
Selling some grenade types you have enough of can come in handy if you need the extra gold in a pinch. I like to keep, say, 4-6 of each type in reserve.
