NPCs don't move? Why not?
To preface this, no I haven't bought the game but I've been considering it. I'm a big fan of old Obsidian games, KotoR, FO:NV, I even still have my copy of Alpha Protocol.

But I've learned that NPCs in Avowed cities are stationary, forever petrified on the spot unable to move. I'm seeing everyone compare this game to Oblivion and Skyrim and I couldn't care less, but like....NPCs have moved around in towns since at least the SNES. It brings the cities to life. Chrono Trigger had moving NPCs. SNES Final Fantasy games had moving NPCs. One of the main issues people had with NPCs in those days was path blocking....I guess you could say Avowed fixed that issue at least?

I wish I was in the room to know what was the reasoning behind the game design decision for these statues.

I'm going to quote you because you have poor memory:

" but YOU seem to be conditioned to only chase the carrot"

Plus YOUR argument is extremely dumb regardless of moving or not, immersion or lack of it, YOU simply are requesting to pay more for less. Instead of a quality experience YOU get one that is extremely mediocre and forgettable.

I didnt see a we in those statements.. on YOU.

Omg I can't believe I have to explain this to you. First of calling someones argument dumb, stupid or whatever word you want to attribute to it, is separate from calling the person dumb or stupid, it is not an insult or attack, You as a person are not your argument okay ? I have dumb opinions and arguments all the time that doesn't make me stupid that makes my comment dumb or lacking understanding at that moment.

Someone conditioned to chase a stick ain't an insult either. It was an observation made from what you wrote in which you disregarded immersion. When playing a game just for visual and main quest ignoring the lore, world building, etc is akin to only chasing the carrot. It was a metaphor, not meant as an insult.
no no you see, factual observations are insults nowadays. /s

Yeah.. you kinda have to go back aways to take in the actual argument...
"The Living Lands is an island where the air hums with ancient magic, the flora seems to move with a mind of its own, and the ground beneath your feet shifts with secrets waiting to be unearthed."

The flora seems to move with a mind of its own but it is a pity the people don't.

Wait until you realize that fisherman have fishing rods, without fishing lines, fishing in water without fish.

The living lands?

Ok, now I think that Obsidian is actually making fun of the way they're making fun of people here (The living lands...) ha ha ha xD

The land where NPCs have no life at all ...

Dude.. Are you kidding me? Wanting NPCs to move is tearing at the fabric of your mind? Look, I understand that you want realism... go find another game. Stop wanting to have your cake and eat it too. Not all games.. are going to abide by the specs you want.. regardless of what you think is reasonable, realistic, or modern. With nearly 40 hours in, Avowed has been a pretty top notch game. Try it or dont, but stop festering your wounds over nothing.
Top notch but the npcs don’t move lmao

I am sorry but there will be none. I concluded that our discussion will lead to nothing and it's pointless. I will say that I apologize if I came across to hard or my wording sounding as an insult. English is not my first language. It was self taught so for me it my sounds different than for you.

Incredibly weak rationale. Halfway through her basically admits the team isn't good enough to do it. Enemies are capable of moving around. Why not normal people? They don't have to wander randomly. Give each one a path, and then they don't HAVE to worry about navigating random objects. There are ways to bake flooring so that characters will avoid spots, too.

To be fair on your point, I believe the creator may have made the vid with a sarcastic intent. I watched some of the other videos and a lot of them are very well presented but full of sarcasm.

Tbh enemies are not capable to move around either, they have a certain zone that they can move around. You can stay out of their range and shoot at them, they will only go back and forth. Is really easy to cheese them.
