Avowed
NPCs don't move? Why not?
To preface this, no I haven't bought the game but I've been considering it. I'm a big fan of old Obsidian games, KotoR, FO:NV, I even still have my copy of Alpha Protocol.

But I've learned that NPCs in Avowed cities are stationary, forever petrified on the spot unable to move. I'm seeing everyone compare this game to Oblivion and Skyrim and I couldn't care less, but like....NPCs have moved around in towns since at least the SNES. It brings the cities to life. Chrono Trigger had moving NPCs. SNES Final Fantasy games had moving NPCs. One of the main issues people had with NPCs in those days was path blocking....I guess you could say Avowed fixed that issue at least?

I wish I was in the room to know what was the reasoning behind the game design decision for these statues.

Dude.. Are you kidding me? Wanting NPCs to move is tearing at the fabric of your mind? Look, I understand that you want realism... go find another game. Stop wanting to have your cake and eat it too. Not all games.. are going to abide by the specs you want.. regardless of what you think is reasonable, realistic, or modern. With nearly 40 hours in, Avowed has been a pretty top notch game. Try it or dont, but stop festering your wounds over nothing.

Where would you want them to go? What should they do in this empty world? The best environments are the woods. The towns and outposts feel like an early access game with the bare minimum of structures. I got to Paradis, saw that it was just as lifeless as when I arrived at the dock, and requested my refund. I'll come back when the game is like $30.

Not all heroes wear capes.
I mean if that was the only issue I would say its not that bad but with that and all the other issues, like lacking rpg features, immersive features lacking, combat lacking, AI lacking and pretty much everything in the game being mid I would say the game is lacking pretty bad.

Explain what you mean by combat lacking, rpg features lacking and immersive features lacking please.

I don't know about the environs, but simply walking around town and standing in front of vendor stalls before moving on wouldn't be asking much?

Combat is barely better then the elder scrolls games and that is their weakest point, look at the deatil comparison videos to see the immersive features lacking, RPG elements are lacking as in theft, reputation, relationships and pretty much any other RPG like element is not there, don't need them all but some would be nice. The game just overall feels lacking in this style of game. Customisation is lacking,

Is that a question or a statement? Why does NPCs walking around in a predictable pattern make or break a game for you?

Does this assessment come from watching videos or playing the game?

Watching many videos and streams, watching videos is a good source of information.

I don't disagree that videos CAN be a good source of information. Although, you're not guaranteed RELIABLE information. But watching someone else play and comment on a game is ENTIRELY different than playing the game, feeling the combat mechanics, making the choices that alter the story. Its simply not the same. Also, don't ever compare anything to From-soft games combat mechanics. You'll always be disappointed. But the mechanics in Avowed are still fun as hell.

Because in the same way you have allowed yourself to not care about it, I am also allowed to have my preferences and thoughts about games I buy. Why are you deciding to be so hostile about this?
