Game feels lazy and lacks a soul
Reposting this, as my original thread was deleted and reported for spam. Guess they are removing negative posts, but here we go for round two. Again, as someone who HAS played the game using my roommates PC, I have roughly 40 hours in it.

My biggest issue is how lazy the game feels. So much depth and interactivity have been lost over the years in these "big brand RPG's". Simple but immersive mechanics - like arrows existing as physical projectiles, NPCs reacting realistically to events, or guards actually enforcing laws - are just gone. In Avowed, you can start a fight in the middle of the city, and the guards don’t care. NPCs might yell at you for stealing, but they don’t actually do anything to stop or punish you. Compare this to Oblivion, a game nearly 20 years old, where stealing an apple in front of a guard would have them chasing you down and hauling you off to jail. The lack of meaningful consequences and interactions makes the world feel static and lifeless. The story is just bland, uninspired, and honestly you can tell this game was meant to be a multiplayer experience. It's unfortunate that it ended in this state, and more unfortunate that players of the community are actively supporting terrible launches, but such are the days we live in.

I don’t entirely blame the developers, Obsidian isn’t the same studio it was 20 years ago, but the game’s mechanics feel severely underdeveloped. NPCs are dumber, the story is more generic, and the world is significantly less interactive. The soul of classic RPG's is gone.

Npc's are stationary, AI is lacking, combat is lacking, graphics are ok but not great, its lacking features you would expect in a current day game, its lacking immersive features. Ya I can see it feeling lifeless and soulless.

Wanna check what discussions rules and guidelines say about reposting?

You should probably post that as review but seeing you don't even own the game... why do you even bother?

Those of us that aren't clowns just got it on gamepass. £60 for this? Lmao

There is certainly something here, but it isn't delivering. Feels like another case of "Microsoft demanded the game be released by X date."

Guess the people that said Obsidian should have made Starfield were wrong. Microsoft is too eager to pump things out into Game Pass.

If it was the only game I wanted to play on game pass I would feel ripped off paying the 10 bucks.

They already did that, it's called the Outer Worlds. :)

And hey, at least you can't exploit vendor inventories by interacting with their "inaccessible" stash through ground or glitching through terrain or something.

It seems really good at the start and I was pleasantly surprised but after a few hours it does become apparent everything is only skin deep. Characters are lacklustre and the writing is another case of it feeling 'like HR was in the room' as is all too common today.

I think there are far worse games but this could be worth it if you already have Game Pass or get it for 90% off in a future sale. But for the $120 they want where I live, I cant justify paying that much for a game I will almost certainly never finish and will quit in 5 - 10 hours or so.

You need to come to terms and learn to enjoy new games done by talentless hecks or start going through your backlog of awesome games

Because I have played the game and have the right to make my voice heard about my experience and views about it?

Exactly. The world itself is beautiful, but the gameplay is boring and lacks soul. You can feel playing it that it has that "Co-Op feel", to me it's like Anthem. Great idea, rushed excecution.

Honestly the games I've been playing these last couple months were mostly released prior to 2018. A couple exceptions, like Helldivers 2 and BG3. But lots of Skyrim, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 and NV, Rimworld, so on.

Most people here wont have the mouse as nobody will pay the ridiculous full price so they of course try it on Game Pass and yeah, you do have the right to voice your opinion. Though many devs are abusing the moderation system on Steam and will ban you for literally no reason, so do watch out.

These guys don't seem to be that bad to be fair

Never in my near 16 years on this platform had I had as little as a comment removed before. It's a shame that people are so unwilling to accept negative feedback. The people supporting this game are creating an echo-chamber of approval as they're the only ones who actually paid full price for it. It's ok to enjoy the game, it's less so to report, berate, and dismiss people who didn't. I'm not dismissing those who enjoyed it, just simply saying I feel the game is lifeless, lacks a soul, and there are definitely a large group of people who are willing to accept this as the norm.

Lack of NPC reactivity, or even movement, is a killer. Despite everything, I find myself more interested in AC Shadows than Avowed.

Netflixification of gaming is why I won't support Gamepass. This game smacks of "good enough."
