Big AAA console devs constantly push graphics over gameplay and a big part of good graphics, the console look even, is HDR. It is part of the standard art asset development workflow and most common engines and Unreal especially can support it trivially. Easy to support whole having a PBR workflow.
Even before real HDR we had fake HDR, where several tone mapping techniques were used to avhieve similar results. For context, Google the whole "filmic tone mapping" era of console graphics.
Not supporting it in 2025 makes me severity doubt the competence of the devs: why did you not make use of this common low hanging fruit. Obsidian making this game: hmmm, what would make us more money and ensure we are not going to be devoured by Microsoft? HDR? Nah son, pronoun slider!
And yes, fantastic HDR may be difficult to achieve, but decent one can be half assed and looks better than SDR. Nvidia can now inject it with a glorified filter they will sell you as "AI super rtx vision" or something.
TLDR: HDR or GTFO no meney for you, you irresponsible devs you!
Wow, trolling used to be at least believable...
If you have an NVDIA GPU, use RTX HDR, many many times it's even superior than the built in game's HDR.
you lose 10-20% performance by using rtx hdr
not really a viable solution especially considering that unreal engine 5 has hdr built right into it.
i would cut obsidian some slack of this was an inhouse developed engine, but its not. so i dont in that regard
still looks great on my oled though, even without hdr
Until then I'll enjoy my refund money.
Just buy a scalped 5090 and brute force it. Solved!
