Avowed
Is this game genuinely 15-17 hours max?
I don't mind shorter games, for the most part. But I DO mind when the game charges more than the standard AAA price yet can be beaten in a single sitting if I have a fully free day.

Has anyone finished the game, is it genuinely that short?

Mind you, if it's 15-17 hours just for the main quest but still has a bunch of side content, that hardly counts as being short... But reviews and How Long To Beat both claim the 17 hours is to 100% the game?

Edit: Well, feedback seems to indicate that roughly 30 hours is closer to what I can expect. But, it turns out I have free gamepass, so I'm gonna play the game either way. If it's literally free I can't complain about the length either way XD

No. If you speedrun the main story and ignore every single side quest you might glean 25-30 hours out of it. If you take your time and explore itll take you much longer. For reference, I'm 25 hours in and only just got to the 2nd main zone.

25 hours to finish the first zone? Are you playing on a super hard difficulty? Cause even people swearing that it's longer than the claims make have said they explored every inch of the main zone in 10 hours.

Maybe the difficulty you're playing on will help make it last more? Lol
You are not going to get time value for your dollar from this game. Same with outer worlds. Your also gonna spend a lot of time fighting broken AI with jenky controls. There also isn't a NG+. This game is amateur to the max. Most object aren't interactable and the exploration is extremely mid.

I believe it took me 10-12 hours to explore the first area and do most of the quests, so the length seems fine. More importantly, exploration was actually fun and rewarding. No huge map with 100 copy-pasted caves/forts/dungeons just to pad game length.

If you believe game pricing should be based on length, I'm sure Ubisoft would love a word with you :)

I've done almost all the side content in 30 hours, with a one-shot dual-wield pistol build, loosing three hours because of bugs and skipping a lot of dialogue. You may finish the game in 15 hours doing only the main quest, but you'll need to farm materials to level up your gear.

I actively boycott Ubisoft, they're worse than EA and that's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ accomplishment.

Anyway, no. Length isn't the biggest factor on price, quality matters far more... But rather you like it or not, yes, it does in fact matter. I can't justify literally paying extra for a game that can be beaten in one sitting.

Thanks for the honest answer though, 10 hours for the first zone seems to be around what most people say, so I assume I can expect at least 20-25 hours which is a lot more than... 15... XD

Sounds good, thank you! 30 hours is much more reasonable.
Yes, the main story of almost any game that releases nowadays is 20 hours long. That is by design. You need to have a main story in open world games that is fairly short to give you reason to play it and satisfy the normies who don't understand how open world games work.
The only outliers from this are basically AC valhalla, the main quest of that game is insanely long.

Open world games are made for the side content and exploration, also the reason the main story in most open world games is rather trash, cuz it's simply not the main focus. I assume that is why the main story of avowed is so poorly written too. Unfortunately none of the side content is interesting either or rewarding.

55 hours for first run through for me. Explored everywhere and did as much as I could.
Reviews on how long to beat are always at least 50% lower than my play time in any game.
HLTB constantly underestimates value in terms of hours. Unless you are deliberately attempting to finish as fast as possible, each zone will give you a minimum of 10 hours. Bare minimum.
i'm currently 26 hours and i just left the first area

It's the same as standard AAA price - Civ VII, Monster Hunter Wilds, Assassin's Creed Shadows et al are all the same base price. Welcome to 2025.

Only if they're defining 100% as something other than 100% :P There's over fifty different ending slides, most of which are dependent specific combinations of choices or quest outcomes throughout the game. Just to see all of the possible main endings would require three or four playthroughs, and that's without looking at the possible variations on that ending from making particular choices in sub/side quests.
For a single playthrough you might hit 17 hours if you focus almost exclusively on the main quest and largely ignore the sidequests, though doing so means you'd only uncover around 20% of each map, so you can take a guess at how much of the game you'd get to see. Assuming you do the 'main' sidequests, explore a little and take on the smaller tasks like bounty hunting I think you'd probably clock in at around 40 hours for a single run.

I think you're confusing "open world" with "sandbox". Either that or you've somehow never played a single good open world game. like 95% of good open world games are HEAVILY story driven, and the side content is... well... side content.

I can literally only think of ONE single open world game that was even remotely decent, but had a bigger focus on the side content than the main story, and that's Hogwarts Legacy... And that focus on the side content was a detriment to the game that caused people to lose interest pretty fast.
