Why is this game so expensive if it released on Game pass?

bad business model I went gamepass cuz its too expensive here for a short-ish single player game

Getting people to make a gamepass account to try the game is probably one goal for MS, its not much further to seeing what other games are available and then paying for a subscription.

As they say, getting people in the door is half the battle.

Honestly, seeing what's on gamepass now...yeah...I'm probably going to cancel overpriced netflix and use gamepass instead. There's at least 6+ months of games to play on there for me.

And it works. But MS is probably heavily subsidizing devs who take part in the gamepass program because people like me are going to pick gamepass on Obsidian games due to their length and simplistic NPCs.

Not a dig on Obsidian. That's what they do and you either get on board or don't. Also As far as I can tell so far being able to murderhobo the map doesn't really fit the theme since you're a diplomatic representative. My only gripe is guards don't react to hostile NPCs committing crimes but that's probably a decision based on not allowing players to cheese certain content at the expense of immersion.

I might buy the game at some point, but I can play it for the next 14 days with a £1 trial of Game Pass. Seven pence per day! I'd be an idiot to buy it on Steam in the hopes of testing the game thoroughly in 2 hours.

yes same reason on why i didn't buy this game. very expensive game, i'm beginning to suspect that this is a strategy from microsoft to make game pass more enticing
