66gb update incoming

I am desperate to know how these developers are reliably releasing games, and then dropping major updates within a week of launch.

It's been happening so long it's normal. Nobody questions it.

How tf are these guys putting a 66gb update out that has "major improvements for progression systems", etc ?!

Truly top tier management at these companies.

Well on the topic of 1 I can add something. So imagine you have a 1GB file that contains some map data. Now someone changes just 1 Line of code in that. Could be something super easy. Turns out the entire file has to be re-downloaded. Thats why these patches in many modern games are so huge. The files are huge and any small changes... means you have to download it again. Not the best solution but that is the way it is. And that is why in older games the updates were smaller. The files were smaller. That is not up to the devs but that is how steam handles updates.

its not a 66gb patch its going to rewrite 66gb worth of data through steam to patch it.

That was the day 1 patch. It was released yesterday when the game went live. The patch notes are in the update history.
