Quick tip for early game.

Many tier 1 weapons and armor will salvage for only 1 piece of crafting material (Softwood, Iron chunks etc.) However, these same crafting materials you can buy for only 12 gold. These early weapons sell for 30g-ish gold each. You can sell these weapons and buy the crafting materials from the vendors for 12g a piece and get an almost 2.5x return from buying it after selling your equipment.

Only caveat is the vendors will run out of material. To get them to restock, you can set up camp, leave camp and set it up again a few times and the vendors will restock those same materials you bought. It might not be the fastest, but It seems to be the most efficient as far as optimizing resources.
