This is correct, everyone looks either:

Ugly
Boring
Rainbow-y
Ridiculous
Corny
Weak-sauce
Emasculated
Mush-room-y

...or some combination of one or more of the above. The funny thing is they clearly worked hard at making all the characters look like crap lol.

She is not ugly at all, you see here at the start of the game, right after the tutorial. There are plenty of characters that are not ugly. There are tons of characters in the first city that are not ugly, you would know this if you actually played the game.
