Biggest difference, Oblivion can be had for ~$40 or less, as where Avowed is laughably, $70.
If you pay really close attention to detail you can notice they're very different games.

Also lol this video would look VERY different if it were comparing combat or exploration.

I don't even have to watch the video posted by the OP. You will see such fun and exciting things as:

1.- banging glasses and plates on a table while the player gasps in pleasure as they fall to the floor.

2.- Stealing forks and spoons. I don't know how such things are not implemented as a requirement for all games to be triple A.

3.- Behaving like a psycho by murdering villagers only to end up being sentenced to 1 day in jail or pay a fine.

4.- "Exploring" the outdoors while running around hysterically jumping up and down.

5.- Open chests to get the same generic and random items depending on the level of the player's character.

6.- Moving your weapon from left to right and vice versa while trying to reduce the life of an enemy that has turned into a sponge the higher you level up.

Do I keep going? No. I'm bored. Less than playing Oblivion, but bored nonetheless.

I think the biggest difference is the optimisation. Oblivion is definitely made with consoles in mind and isn't very well optimised for the PC.

Outside of that I think Oblivion is better, with progression, story (though that is personal preference) and atmosphere.
This game lacks the white knuckle excitement of looting your 400th potato. Or the edge of your seat terror of wondering when the next crash or quest shattering bug will waylay you next.

That said, buy both ya dumdums, two good games. RPG fans are "Eating good" as they say.

Why do people keep posting this same stupid video?

Honestly, between Oblivion and Avowed, I'd prefer to try Clair Obscur. But I still wouldn't compare these wildly different games as though they're all in the same sub-genre.

Second choice is Avowed, though. The Elder Scrolls universe just never appealed to me.:conwayshrug:

Desperation and a lack of originality.

Yeah, that's what I suggested, but the post got deleted for inane reasons.

Yes, they'rre different. The "Live"-part especially. (I'm not sure, but I think in Oblivion, the guards even react to drawn weapons in cities.) You can steal and take all that's not "nailed tied" as we in Germany say. ("alles, das nicht niet- und nagelfest ist") AND you're punished for stealing. (Yes, REAL stealing also possible, e. g. loot isn't always for you, in comparison to Avowed.) And the things, you can steal, aren't nessecarily useful. (That's way different in Avowed: All things, you can pickup, have some purpose, except of selling them. The only exception are Gems, but they're even considered as an "item to sell".)

But, I think especially the combat-gameplay is quite similar, including magic. (I don't have the reamke, but I played the original back in time.)

So, I think, the games are on par at best, but Oblivion is much cheaper. So, if you don't know both games, I would certainly recommend Oblivion, just because of the price. If money isn't a topic, and you also know Oblivion from past times, then I would realy consider Avowed instead.

Let's see, I have to point out from the beginning that for me the TES games since Oblivion, while admitting that I love the lore, I am deeply bored by its open and generic gameplay that borders on the absurd and surreal. Combat is a separate issue, as I dislike it extremely much.

But I have to admit that if I feel like having a laugh with memes, nothing like a video of the TES series.

I recommend the first 2 minutes. I literally cried with laughter.

Avowed definitely has more interesting combat magic.

Oblivion suffers from the spellmaker system making all destruction magic just 'do damage to one target' or 'ball of damage to many targets'.

No secondary effects, no ground aoe spells, and no reason to avoid making every spell some kind of big damage over time.

And the weapon summons here actually have effects and aren't just some odd replacement to stuff you could just carry.

Also Avowed offers guns, dodge, slides, stuns, wands. dual wielding, grenades, elemental effects, etc. It has a lot more depth to the systems

Oblivion has a lot more to do besides combat though

I'm on GamePass, so I have access to both there.

And funny enough, it was trying the Oblivion remaster, that made me try Avowed.

When playing Oblivion RM, I quickly remembered, just how boring, bland, and repetitive that game was... care for another tower, sir?

So I gave Avowed a try and well, 10 hours in and I love it. It's by no means perfect, but if a game can keep me playing and hooked, I consider that a win. Very few games do that these days.

So for me it's definitely Avowed>Oblivion.

Just a personal opinion tho.

I heartfully agree, except for the last part, because exploring the world is much more rewarding in Avowed, while Oblivion feels more generic.

stupid video by an oblivion fanboy
Oblivion (old and was lame) or Avowed* or Lords of Fallen* or Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 (no companions) or Atomfall (prefer the swords magic fantasy over guns) or Bleach ROS* or FFVII Rebirth* or all those elden ring DLC (elden ring wasn't that great compared to DS1-3, very good game but way less challenging and content)
*I bought the ones with a star........

What else came out recently that cost quite a bit?? oh wait Avowed is on Game pass bad ass maybe another game will be on Sale since Steam is the greatest>>

*edit oblivion is a ps2 game, an early game filled with bugs that made i t fun.... not quite xbox 360....... That year it was good but the following year was the greatest games in history*

Also this game is similar to witcher (Boring AF for hours at a time, dodging too OP) and dragon age (same but worse combat)... is the video poster even a gamer....
