I played dual-wield on my first playthrough, I'm going to do weapon/shield on my second and appreciate that they will feel different.
I'm also playing a dual-wielder, but the more i read, the more interested i am in a sword/board build. apparently the shields will proc "on parry" effects from BOTH pieces of equipment, and they have a much higher parry stun than anything else in the game. so if you have both Spindlewalker and Drawn In Winter equipped, and you parry with the shield, you will proc frost AND lay down a slowing web, as well as dealing best-in-class stun. It makes shields seem way more interesting, like you could get some weird synergies going.
Just doesn't seem worth losing a shield OR the massive spell options of a tome.
Dual pistols is kinda different since they are much less impacted by stamina and have an absurd alpha strike.
Honestly, the benefit will mostly come from dual wielding uniques that built up elemental damage or allow you to attack faster. Fists of fury skill is extremely good with dual wield.
