C'mon Microsoft, we need you!
But guess what: Baldurs Gate 3 is also on GOG and Im pretty happy with it.
And that game was a success : )
As for piracy, unless the game uses Denuvo, then "one guy" or a group will crack the Steam version and share it anyway.
But I guess leadership at Microsoft are too detached from reality to see that they are only policing the paying customers, while failing miserably when it comes to piracy prevention.
Of course. And it launched on GOG in early access. People buy good games and pirates were never potential customers to begin with.
It's also not just about library removals, but unwanted patches. Some patches remove content or change it for the worse. Why should I let someone like Rockstar patch out music from GTA IV? Their license to commercialise the music expired. That is THEIR problem, not mine. I bought the game with the music on time. Why are they making it my problem? It was never my problem in the days of CDs. Well... I still have my old GOG installer of Alan Wake with music intact. Good for GOG.
We should be in control of the software we buy, not the store and not the publisher.
Had my games stolen via DRM too a couple of times, shifted over to buying primarily on GOG. DRM only hurts paying customers, not the pirates.
And rewarding studios for releasing a DRM free version on GOG can also lead to a change.
Obviously this is utopian after Greedy G***CENSORED BY STEAM**** N. singlehandly destroyed the used market in the first place ^^
But as long as they are gaining a bit money from selling stuff on gog, they will release on gog.
I really hope so, but I am also aware that all Obsidian releases ceased the moment Microsoft got involved. They don't even wanna publish something as simple as Pentiment on GOG now.
It is kinda sad, how M$ is approaching it, but has to be expected from a tech company these days. Especially abig one.
This is the opposite of GOg as much as it can get X D
The pinnacle of "You own nothing and you will be happy(ly pay for it with a subscription)"
And it also doesnt work for me as a "demo" because you have to pay for it anyway. Whcih is just bonkers these days.
What happened to the culture of releasing demos...
A lot of obsidian games are on GOG including Alpha Protocol so it’s not like they haven’t been getting along.
But, for example, the outer worlds took around year or more after release to come to GOG.
