Will it be like the outer worlds or FNV?
Hoping this won't be a "modern" Obsidian game like the Outer Worlds which wasnt bad but it was aggressively mediocre and more like FNV which had in depth and fleshed out RPG elements comparatively. But it seems like the Golden Age of Obsidian will be behind us if this game flops

From what we can tell, the world design is more Outer Worlds (not one big seamless world.)

Previews are praising the writing and quest design, but only time will tell.

It's made in the style of The Outer Worlds. You should expect a more 'hub-based' style (though how the hubs are split up isn't clear atm) rather than the 'free roaming' of FNV.

PAID reviews...about as reliable as a CNN news anchor or The View.

Hence "only time will tell."
They've specifically compared the game to The Outer Worlds. Hopefully the iterate on it, doubly so at these priecs because TOW felt like a AA game from a brand new studio, not a veteran one that made FNV.

But this game is in no shape or form anything like FNV and neither with TOW2 be.

The golden age of obsidian is already behind us. That is literally why they had to be bought out by Microsoft to survive.

While I love PoE to death they never sold well and as a studio obsidian never saw the success Owlcat and Larian earned for themselves.

And so, Owlcat and Larian are the new Bioware and Obsidian. Too much so in Owlcat's case as their games are buggy messes at release...

We do know. It's indeed region-based but it seems you will be mostly free to explore them in whatever order. The director said you will face tougher battles if you decide to head east early.

Owlcat are also like Obsidian in that their games are often frontloaded and their endings a bit rushed.

I love them but I wish they'd work on that.

Ehhh... BG3 was also buggy af on release. Cohh Carnage called Act 3 'about 70% done' (iirc). It took them a year to have it be in a playable state. Don't exclude Larian haha.

My playthrough of it has been the buggiest game I've played in a decade, and I played CP2077 on launch hahaha.

They talked about it in a recent AMA and said they had a new internal process that should make things better and actually surprised me by saying they are actually deeply ashamed about the state of their games.

Because they damn well should be.

They'll get no slack from me until I see consistent proof of improvement--even Rogue Trader was a disaster at launch with most players being unable to even finish the game and a ton of stuff flat out didn't work.

I always joke that Owlcat has some of the best artists and writers in the biz, but they need to throw all their game designers, coders, and management into a pit and set it on fire.

Nooooooooooooooowhere near as much as people like to pretend, and they've shown consistent improvement from DOS 1 and 2.

Don't come in as a tourist and try to lecture someone who's been playing Larian's games longer than you've been born, likely. DOS 1 and 2 made them famous but it's far from their first games.

Cohh Carnage had a very specific unlucky run and was isolated in that. I didn't have any issues and neither did any of my friends or a lot of other streamers. And Act 3 was 100% done, it just had the most bugs.

But still nowhere near Owlcat's. I'm guessing you actually don't play any Owlcat games for you to say something so ludicrous as the two couldn't literally be more night and day when it comes to bugs.

When you use the rare super power that is your brain and actually play RPGs, something you clearly don't do, the relative amount of bugs in BG3 compared to its scope, size, and Larian's prior work is astonishing and respectable.

Meanwhile, it seems Owlcat refuses to do anything but release an early alpha and then spend 3 years to fix it and add content back in.

Like, literally. Their stupid first DLC for Rogue Trader was clearly cut content and they didn't bother to hide it.

And BG3 being more buggy than Cyberpunk 20207?

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?

The game literally removed from Playstation because of how bad it was?

Dude I'm just going to ignore you. You're just lying now and have no idea what you're talking about lmao.

Damn grifters, go spend your time doing something else man.

How old are you? The first of their games (which I played on launch) was Divine Divinity. I personally liked their games more *before* DOS 1 (which I backed). I don't like the style they've developed from DOS1 on, which I personally view as style over substance.

Owlcat has substance over style - though they've had to acknowledge that with the BG3 success, they're going to funnel more $ into production (a crying shame, imo, since the more production you have, the fewer options... it just costs too much to have the voice lines for every possible combination of every possible class and outcome).

BG3 is a fairly simplified CRPG from a statistics/attributes/perks perspective, combined with the world-interaction (barrelmancy, or more like 'cliffmancy' in BG3) of DOS. That's fine... but it's also pretty ho-hum. I don't think I've been less excited to get a level up in a CRPG in years.

... and yes... my run of BG3 has been much buggier than my run of CP2077 was. So much so that I still haven't finished it, despite starting it on launch. Every time I load it up, I hit another bug and it's just... tiring... to have to reload so often in a game.

Your credibility is in the garbage bin brah. I didn't read any of that and I'm not going to. Having a rational conversation with you would clearly be a waste of time, so I'm not going to do it.

Stop responding to me, thanks.

Thank you for admitting it. It was very mature of you, and a rare but welcome sight. Next time, please refrain from posting about things you know nothing about.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

It's all good, I'm done. My point was made and you've learned your lesson so I'm out.
