Can I make my own character?
From the screenshots I've seen, it looks like they only have premade characters with some slight modifications. I'm not down for playing somebodies OC. I'd very much like to create my own character like in other RPG titles.

Yes, you create your own character. Either an elf or a human Godlike with one of five backgrounds.

Yes! Thankfully it is one of those games where there still is character creation.

You can create your own character but options are limited and you're forced to use specific godlike features, which are fungal accents in this game. You kind hide them but people will still react to it.

It's honestly not a great looking character creator. Certainly no BG3 or Dragon's Dogma 2 lol. And the customization options mechanical-wise are pretty bad. The 5 backgrounds boil down to warrior background, ranger/rogue background, pure mage background, melee mage background, ranger mage background, lol.

They affect your starting stat distrubtion.

If I go Death Godlike, am I stuck with mushrooms or can I make my face look like a swirly black poo, same as in PoE1-2?

you don't get to choose what type of godlike you are for story reasons [also shouldn't most godlikes be as good as extinct after canonical PoE2 events anyway?]
the godlike features are very varied though

Yes, in theory you are a Godlike being of an unknown God and have manifestations of nature and mushrooms on your face, the plague that is happening in Living Lands has to do with the unknown God

My guess? Maybe the island itself is a sleeping or sick God.

I watched that rappid fire question's to the dev video and now im dead convinced that you are right, the bad guys want to wake the god/island. Thats why they are called the living lands because its just a sleepy god, your god.

Man, i cant wait >.< Let me in already.

There aren't a lot of godlike features actually, it's not vary varied and a lot of people hated them which is why you have the option to hide them like hiding helmets. SUpposedly people reviewing the game said they added a ton more subtle better-looking ones though so eh.

This much was guessed like literally right away and is ultimately meaningless information. More important is the fact that godlikes of the usual gods still exist, suggesting the gods are not completely gone.

The theme of death and decay contrasted against life seems incredibly relevant as well, and it's hammered hard via dead things coming back to life and mushrooms which is life that feeds on the dead.

A lot of people think the game's plot will ultimately feature the choice of using this god, which might have been some kind of failsafe, to revive the old gods or instead consume them and create one changed super-god.
with 2 race options it's barely your own character

I mean, some RPGs have NO race option and you can still make your own character.

Yeah, and how many races where playable in PoE again? you know the previous titles that shares the same setting?

Granted, but this isn't a sequel to Pillars, it's a different genre in the same universe. The limited playable races really don't bother me, honestly.

It bothers me immensly and see it as a sign of a subpar product from a studio suffering from Ship of Theseus syndrome. Just like Bioware and Veilguard.

It continues the story, which is what a sequel is. Changing the genre of playstyle doesn’t have any relevance to it continuing the story.
