Basically everyone who's played a preview copy has said that the game has robust dialogue trees and lets you role play as an evil character.
This is from the same company that made Fallout New Vegas, another first person game comparable to Wasteland Skyrim with Guns but the dialogue and role playing were fantastic in it.
Honestly I think half of what New Vegas so good was that they were able to build on Bethesda's structure. If Obsidian had had to make it all from scratch, they wouldn't have produced the same result.
It's similar to why Saints Row 2 is the best of that series. It re-used a lot of SR1's content then expanded on it.
Bethesda didn't understand Fallout, but Obsidian did.
Don't get me wrong I love classic isometric CRPGs like PoE and Tyranny and it would be a travesty if they were to stop being made, but that's the core thing that's different, in PoE you engage from a top down isometric perspective with micromanaged pause based combat, in Avowed it's from a first person perspective with more action oriented combat.
But the RPG fundamentals are essentially the same, you still have your quests and dialogue trees and exploration of a rich and interesting world.
If that doesn't appeal to you though I highly HIGHLY recommend checking out Owlcat Studios to scratch that CRPG itch it's not the same as Pillars of Eternity but they make games very similar to it like Pathfinder: WOTR

Basically most of the five main ones are well done. It's the ones that unlock later that are underbaked.
Isometrics are easier to make than full 3d games like this, that normally guaranteed that majority of the development is used for storytelling. A huge chunk of development for 3d games like this will be eaten by teams that try to make the game looks pretty. Sure fans will like it but if you are crpg fans it is not on the top of priority. BG3 manage to pull it off but i said again and again that it is the outlier, they are the exception even then the most hardcore fans are still complain that some of its RPG element suffer because of it. Skyrim for example focus on the graphics and as the result its RPG elements suffered a lot. Starfield is even worse than Skyrim and since then Bethesda fans are leaving. Obsidian fans are crpg fans, i hope they dont make the same mistake as bioware did.
Yup, Avowed is a dumbed-down spin off nobody asked for.
