Avowed
Bets on whether Obsidian will fall and close studio or not.
As for me, yes they will fall.

I guess it happened to the best flop of all time: Concord
It's worth noting that they launched the studio with a flop.

Also Gollum took out the development arm of Daedlic

But other studios have survived some incredible flops - Babylon's Fall comes to mind

It's Microsoft. And they have something called Game Pass. There is no way they will fail so badly they close the studio. People who fall for either of the baits count as a win for them.

No. I think OW2 is their planned money maker this year. Avowed and the team behind it are DEI sacrifices.

I don't think they can fail because they also have Outer Worlds 2 coming out and that's the one folks want to play.

you really think so ?
because it seems like they never learned by their mistakes

I'm still holding out hope the game is actually good, but considering what happened to Tango games, even a blowout success doesn't mean they're safe.

We'll see. The first game wasn't actually all that popular and is widely remembered as mediocre with lots of issues and pretty terrible writing. Not bad, just bland. People were shocked it even got a sequel.

They'd have to literally improve everything universally for it to get people excited and we just don't know.
If the game does not do well to the extent that they're heading towards shuttering, Microsoft would be heavily mismanaging to not attempt a Fallout Game as a hail mary before doing so.
Sadly, I don't think this game will flop hard enough to shutter Obsidian. It would have to be a failure on the level of Redfall for that to happen and there are still a lot of misguided "individuals" who think that the name Obsidian means something.

Just to be clear, the studio that made Fallout New Vegas which was their last great game is not the same as the skinsuit that's excreting out Awoked.

Funny thing is I bet Pentiment was probably one of Obsidian's better games and nobody played it to know.

Seriously though did anyone? I've been meaning to buy it someday it's apparently actually a unique and historical passion project that got good reviews.

So I legitimately assume nobody played it lol

Basically people love to complain that games aren't original but when everyone buys Outer Worlds and nobody buys Pentiment... what are developers supposed to conclude

I didn't know it existed. Had a look and it's a "story rich" side scroller. That's a niche within a niche, that's why nobody played it.

They should have done a better job with Outer Worlds which was as tedious as Starfield, then they'd have a better reputation.
I believe there will be some studio layoffs by the end of 2025.

PoE 1/2 are definitely my most favorite Obsidian games ever, and I personally think PoE2 with all the DLCs is the best game overall Obsidian has ever produced.

the problem with Fallout NV for me is that it was bound by the engine to have the same gameplay (i.e. the janky *ss movement, shooting etc) as F3, which is just terrible IMO.

Hard to say. Obsidian has multiple projects in the oven and stuff like Grounds have been hits.
Probably over the course of a decade or two. That usually happens to studios acquired by large publicly traded companies since they usually demand endless growth of profits from studios.

Microsoft closes studios even shortly after praising their gams. See Tango Gameworks.
